Tennessee offers 2022 Ohio State tight end commit

Tennessee Vols football recruiting news.

Josh Heupel and his coaching staff have started recruiting towards the Vols’ 2022 class.

The newly-hired coaching staff has offered 2022 tight end Bennett Christian. Christian committed to Ohio State on Sept. 1.

He is from Allatoona High School in Acworth, Georgia.

“Thankful to be re-offered by the new coaching staff at the University of Tennessee,” Christian said on Twitter.

Christian was initially offered by the Vols on June 3. Ohio State offered the 2022 prospect on June 2.

He has Power Five offers from Ohio State, Tennessee, Georgia Tech, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan State, Nebraska, Penn State and Pittsburgh.

Tennessee currently does not have a commitment for its 2022 recruiting class.

Is the NCAA dead period set to end on April 15th or will it be extended again?

Is it possible the NCAA could extend the dead period once again? It certainly is as they get set to convene next week.

[jwplayer rT852d1s-er0jUifI]

It is coming up on a full calendar year since high school prospects have been able to visit college campuses on the schools dime. Back on March 13th of last year, the NCAA imposed a universal dead period that extended through June 20th, but a little more than a month before it was to end, the NCAA extended it once again.

The extensions kept coming, pushing the dates from the initial announcement all the way through April 15th of this year. Now with a scheduled meeting next Wednesday the 17th, another extension of the dead period could be happening once again.

Kevin Wade’s tweet shows that the Football Oversight Committee wants a six week extension of the dead period, again holding off recruits from visiting campuses to meet coaching staffs and tour the facilities.

Will more virtual visits like the one Notre Dame offensive line target Jake Taylor just had yesterday in store?

[lawrence-related id=25549]

It’s obviously not what any college coaching staff wants to do, but the adjustments have been made.

Who this really hurts are the recruits, not having the visit experience that classes in front of them have had. It would make the most sense to test a recruit and a family member of their choice prior to making a trip to see a school. If they’re positive, obviously they wouldn’t be able to go, but if they are in the clear, wear your masks and tour the school and meet with coaches.

[listicle id=17189]

The NCAA has had almost a year to figure out the best way to combat COVID with recruits visiting schools. To me they just seem to be pushing the dead period back and hoping it figures it out on it’s own. Once again, the NCAA and president Mark Emmert are dropping the ball if they opt to extend the dead period, hurting the student-athletes they’re meant to protect.

Oklahoma among top 10 schools for 2022 Duncanville offensive tackle

The Oklahoma Sooners were among the top 10 schools listed for offensive tackle Jaylen Early out of Duncanville.

[jwplayer stZPkGL9-er0jUifI]

On Wednesday, Jaylen Early from Duncanville, Texas, released his top 10 schools for recruitment. The 2022 four-star offensive tackle has the Oklahoma Sooners among the schools in consideration. One of the top competitors should come as no surprise: The Longhorns are also among the top schools.

It is quite possible Lincoln Riley goes right back to the same school he grabbed Savion Byrd from. Early is listed as the No. 27 rated offensive tackle in the country according to 247Sports composite rankings. His highest ranking as the No. 15 offensive tackle comes from the 247Sports ranking.

The Sooners have no commitments from an offensive lineman, but it is very early in the process. All told, Riley and offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh have 23 offers out to offensive tackles in the 2022 recruiting class.

A top running back target for Oklahoma sets commitment date

A top running back target for the Oklahoma Sooners 2022 recruiting class sets his commitment date for Feb. 5. Raleek Brown is No. 3 of 2022.

During National Signing Day week, the Oklahoma Sooners are already keeping their eyes on the 2021 class as well as a commitment announcement from 2022 five-star defensive tackle Bear Alexander. Just a couple of days following the signing day, another top recruit and Oklahoma target will also be announcing his commitment.

Five-star running back and 2022 target, Raleek Brown of Mater Dei is announcing his school on Feb. 5. Brown is the No. 3 ranked running back of the class and No. 25 overall recruit according to the 247Sports composite ranking. He is the No. 1 running back in the state of California. The Sooners also have their sites set on the No. 2 running back in Gavin Sawchuk of Colorado.

Provided that Lincoln Riley and running backs coach DeMarco Murray can land this recruit, he would a great building block for the class. OU currently has three wide receivers committed. The quartet would be quite the corps of weapons for Caleb Williams when he takes over as the quarterback in Norman.

The Sooners are the only Big 12 school in the running for Brown. The other schools hail from the Pac-12, SEC, and Big Ten Conferences. Circle Friday on your calenders.

Texas Football Recruiting: Ranking the Longhorns’ 2022 quarterback targets

The biggest off the field question seems to be the QB that headlines UT’s ’22 recruiting class. Here are the five potential QBs ranked.

The biggest off the field question surrounding this Texas football team seems to be who will be the quarterback that headlines the Longhorns’ 2022 recruiting class. A cycle loaded with talent from top to bottom, whoever Steve Sarkisian decides to end up taking is going to be the quarterback of the future.

It all begins with one man out of Southlake Carroll High School in five-star and 1.000 rated prospect Quinn Ewers. The once Texas commit has been seen as the quarterback who can be the next Vince Young or Colt McCoy and lead the Longhorns to another national championship. However, he backed off his pledge and is currently committed to the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Sarkisian’s first recruiting assignment will be locking down the 2022 quarterback. Tom Herman’s staff sent out offers to five prospects in Ewers, Malik Murphy, Cade Klubnik, Ty Simpson, and Conner Weigman. Three reside in the state of Texas, while Murphy is a west coast product and Simpson resides in SEC country. Snagging a commitment from any of them would be huge for Texas.

However, it is likely there will only be one. Here are those five ranked in order of how interested the Longhorns should be in them.

The Spartans have had success with recruiting players from Texas, but are already in a big hole on this talented wide receiver. Crystal Ball predictions already have him committing to Ohio State, with Oklahoma also getting some love.

Countless other big name programs like Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Texas, USC, and bountiful other schools have sent Winfield offers.
