How has NFL.com graded Oklahoma’s NFL draft hopefuls heading into the scouting combine?

As several Oklahoma Sooners prepare for the NFL draft, here’s how NFL.com’s draft analysts have the hopefuls graded.

Figuring out where players will get selected in the NFL draft isn’t a guessing game you want to put a lot of money on. Many players will get a consensus draft slot, like Alabama’s Evan Neal or Michigan’s Aidan Hutchinson. Both of those players are consensus top five players in the draft.

In a year where there isn’t a sure-fire quarterback occupying the top spot, it’s challenging to determine where the top players will land. While it’s likely those players will go in the top five, it’s not always a sure thing. Positional value comes into play.

It gets even more difficult as the draft goes along. Some teams will value a trait that other teams deem less valuable. Because NFL teams differ so much on draft analysis and projections, draft analysts will vary.

As we’ve seen in recent mock drafts, as many as four Oklahoma Sooners could go in the top three rounds of the 2022 NFL draft. Nik Bonitto and Perrion Winfrey have been top 60 players throughout the draft process, but joining them recently is linebacker Brian Asamoah. In the Draft Wire’s latest three-round mock draft, Marquis Hayes jumped into the top 100 as well.

Over at NFL.com, they’ve done scouting reports on eight of the 12 Sooners declared for the NFL draft and eight of the 11 Sooners who will participate in this week’s festivities in Indianapolis.

Let’s look at how NFL.com has the Sooners graded at this point in the draft process.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, GM John Schneider to speak at NFL Combine tomorrow

There’s no reason to expect any bombshell announcements from either one of them.

The NFL is turning the next page towards the 2022 season today as the Scouting Combine kicks off in Indianapolis. Dozens of the top college prospects from around the country will be interviewing with teams and the media and going through workouts as they try to boost their draft stock.

Today quarterbacks, receivers and tight ends are going through their check-ins and some front office personnel are speaking with beat reporters. Tomorrow Seahawks coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider will do so, as well. Carroll is scheduled to speak at 1:00 p.m. eastern time (10:00 am pacific) and Schneider at 4:00 eastern, 1:00 p.m. pacific.

There’s no reason to expect any bombshell announcements from either one of them. The media will have fun with Russell Wilson trade scenarios all offseason (we have a doozy of our own coming out later this week) but it’s unlikely he’ll actually get dealt. Everything the organization and its franchise quarterback have said publicly this offseason has indicated Wilson isn’t going anywhere. That doesn’t mean Carroll and Schneider won’t be asked about it, though.

Other timely topics that will probably be covered are potential new contracts for free safety Quandre Diggs, cornerback D.J. Reed and left tackle Duane Brown – the three internal free agents most likely to get extensions first. The franchise tag might be a possibility for Diggs or Reed if it comes to that.

The Seahawks also have a few cornerstone pieces that are entering the last year of their contracts. Reporters may also ask Schneider about extensions for wide receiver D.K. Metcalf and middle linebacker Bobby Wagner in particular.

As for the 2022 draft class, the quarterback group is supposed to be relatively soft (none of them are ranked in the top 15 overall). However, the class is projected to be strong at a couple of spots Seattle needs to upgrade; namely offensive tackle and edge defenders. Starting right tackle Brandon Shell is set to become a free agent and upgrading the pass rush is a priority Carroll and defensive coordinator Clint Hurtt have both mentioned.

We will follow the conversations and post updates as they come.

Here’s what Dolphins fans need to know about the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine

This is the schedule and how to watch the workouts.

The Miami Dolphins join the rest of the NFL world this week in Indianapolis, Indiana to meet and watch some of football’s most talented players, as they prepare for the NFL draft.

While some of the more interesting parts of the week of the combine will be taking place in meeting rooms and behind closed doors, fans and analysts alike will spend time watching prospects run drills and work out in front of the decision-makers for all 32 teams.

Here’s all the important information that fans should know going into the week, including how to watch the drills and when Dolphins representatives will be speaking.

Caring and Hardworking: Delarrin Turner-Yell hopes to stand out at this week’s NFL draft combine

Taking part in the 2022 NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis, what does Delarrin Turner-Yell want NFL teams to know about him?

The next step for prospective NFL draft prospects is underway in Indianapolis as NFL teams, agents, and draft-eligible players gather to go through the NFL scouting combine.

While most of the focus is on the on-field testing in the 40-yard dash, bench press, vertical and broad jumps, and agility drills, what happens behind closed doors will be just as important to NFL teams.

For Delarrin Turner-Yell, it’s his first opportunity to meet with teams in his draft process. The safety who played more than 1,800 snaps for the Sooners defense has a ton of experience that should help him at the next level.

[lawrence-related id=58683]

In the third part of our series with Delarrin Turner-Yell, I asked him what he wants NFL teams to learn about him after spending time with them this week in Indianapolis.

“I’m really outgoing, and I’m a caring type of person. Whichever team decides to draft me, I want them to know that they drafted me to be more than a football player,” Turner-Yell said. “With things going on in the world, it’s really bigger than football. How can I impact the community? How can I impact the younger generation? How can I help someone be able to live out their dream? To help someone that’s doubting that one kid. Here myself, you know, actually being able to live out my dream, with me having to go through the same things with people saying, I can’t do it, I’m too small. I can be the individual that, you know, helps that kid that’s really going through those things. And just lead him the right way. So I’m a really caring, really outgoing type of person, you know, but we’re on the field. I’m very hardworking, you know, trustworthy, and I’m just a guy that’s gonna play the game the way it’s supposed to be played.”

[vertical-gallery id=58729]

Intangibles aren’t something you can see on film or get from a testing drill. Understanding the mental makeup of a player requires meeting with that player and getting to know them. For Delarrin Turner-Yell, this is as important for him as what he does on the field this week. As he said, it’s more than a game.

He doesn’t take the opportunity to impact the lives of others lightly because, as a kid, it was a cousin of his and former NFL player that helped him believe that he could get to the NFL level.

Terrence Toliver, who spent time with the Texans, Bears, Lions and then spent some time in the CFL, helped encourage the Sooners’ safety to believe that he could accomplish his dreams.

“Growing up watching how he did it and being from the same, small country town where you constantly hear ‘no one ever makes it,’ (Toliver) changed the narrative,” Turner-Yell said. “He helped me along the way, even after he moved on, letting me know he was there for me if I ever needed because he had already gone through the things I was getting ready to go through (the combine).”

And that’s what DTY wants to pay forward to the NFL community wherever he plays. He wants to walk alongside athletes to encourage them to chase their goals.

And his on-field goals. When I asked him what he hopes to run in the 40-yard dash, DTY said, “Low 4.4s.” If he hits that this week in Indy, that’ll turn some heads.

As Delarrin Turner-Yell takes part in this week’s NFL scouting combine, his goals are right in front of him. A strong week can make an impression on scouts and NFL front office folks that will help him find a role on a team at the next level.

10 takeaways from Bears GM Ryan Poles at NFL Scouting Combine

At the NFL Combine, Bears GM Ryan Poles discussed building depth, finding playmakers for Justin Fields and revamping the O-line.

The NFL Scouting Combine is underway as some of the nation’s top prospects descend upon Indianapolis with the chance to impress some prospective teams ahead of the 2022 NFL draft.

They’ll be under the watchful eyes of general managers, head coaches and scouts alike, including Bears GM Ryan Poles, who will be looking to do his best with just five draft selections this year.

Poles met with the media on Tuesday morning, where he fielded questions about the upcoming offseason. He did his best to answer the questions he could while making it clear from the start there were some he couldn’t answer, for obvious reasons. But there was plenty to digest from his media session.

From building depth on the roster to finding playmakers for Justin Fields, here’s what we learned from Poles during his Tuesday press conference at the NFL Scouting Combine:

Bears’ Ryan Poles, Matt Eberflus set to speak at NFL Scouting Combine

Bears GM Ryan Poles and HC Matt Eberflus will speak with the media Tuesday ahead of the NFL Scouting Combine.

The 2022 NFL Scouting Combine is about to get underway, where draft prospects will be looking to make a strong impression on prospective teams ahead of the NFL draft.

Before the action gets underway, things will kick off with general manager and head coach interviews.

New Bears GM Ryan Poles and head coach Matt Eberflus will both meet with the media on Tuesday. Poles is scheduled to be at the podium at 11 a.m. CT, while Eberflus will speak at 1 p.m. CT.

This will mark the first time that Poles and Eberflus will meet with the media since their introductory press conference. Only now, they’ve been in their current roles for over a month.

There will likely be questions directed at them about pending free agents, roster holes and potential offseason moves. While Poles and Eberflus are new on the job, don’t expect them to give things away at this point.

The Bears have just five draft selections this year after trading up to acquire quarterback Justin Fields in the first round last year. But they’re slated to have around $25 million in salary cap space, which is the 12th most in the NFL. And that’s before any potential offseason transactions to clear more.
