NFL news: No international games slated for Bills in 2022

NFL news: No international games for the #Bills next season:

The Buffalo Bills will play in numerous other cities in 2022. None of them will be located outside of the United States.

On Monday, the NFL announced five clubs that will be considered the “home team” for a pack of games that will be played outside of the United States.

As things currently sit in the league, we don’t know the full schedules for 2022 just yet. However, we do know who opponents will be and where games will be played in terms of the home and visiting teams.

Combining those two sets of news, we know there won’t be any Buffalo flavor going international next season.

Per the NFL, here are the five teams that will be the home team while playing internationally in 2022:

  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Munich)
  • Arizona Cardinals (Mexico City)
  • Green Bay Packers (London)
  • New Orleans Saints (London)
  • Jacksonville Jaguars (London)

Now combine that with Buffalo’s 2022 opponents.

Of these five teams, the Bills only face the Packers. However, that game is slated to be played in Orchard Park. That means the Bills won’t be in consideration to play in another country.

For reference, here’s the Bills’ full 2022 opponents list:

Buffalo Bills’ 2022 opponents finalized

The Bills last played an international game in 2015 against the Jags in London, a 34-31 loss for Buffalo. Prior to that, the Bills played contests in Toronto as part of the “Bills-Toronto series,” which last occurred in 2013.

At some point in the spring the NFL will announce each team’s entire 2022 schedule, dates and all.

SBJ thinks Bills-Rams 2022 season opener depends on Aaron Rodgers

SBJ thinks #Bills-#Rams 2022 season opener depends on Aaron Rodgers:

The Buffalo Bills are one of the teams that appear to be a favorite to open the 2022 NFL season against the defending champion Los Angeles Rams.

According to Sports Business Journal, the final decision may actually depend on a pretty big third party: Quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Rodgers, who won his second-straight MVP Award in 2021, has long been connected to a potential move away from his current and only team he has played for, the Green Bay Packers. One growing suitor is the Denver Broncos.

A team that has consistently struggled to find a solid starting QB in recent memory, the Broncos have salary cap space and are viewed as a team “a quarterback away” from success. Plus, Denver hired Nate Hackett, the Packers’ former offensive coordinator, as their head coach.

Some easy dots to connect there.

As is tradition, the first game of each season is usually the defending champs hosting someone on Thursday. Per SBJ, the Broncos are the No. 1 candidate to open 2022 at the Rams’ house… if they land Rodgers.

If they don’t, the top choice will be the Bills:

Denver
This will be the game — no question — if Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers moves to the Broncos in the offseason. If Rodgers stays in Green Bay or moves elsewhere, the Broncos will not open the season in SoFi Stadium.

Buffalo
A team that is expected to compete for the AFC Championship, the Bills have a star quarterback in Josh Allen and an exciting offense. Expect this to be the selection if Rodgers does not move to the Mile High City.

Along with the Broncos and the Bills, the other three teams mentioned as possible candidates to visit Los Angeles to start the season were the Dallas Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers and Las Vegas Raiders.

Much of the Bills’ candidacy has to do with Allen under center, plus the way Buffalo’s season ended in overtime against the Kansas City Chiefs in the postseason.

While just speculation, some other NFL insiders have also given their takes on the season opener next year. At least one from NFL.com and another from NFL Network have thrown their support behind Rams-Bills.

Regardless of the outcome, Buffalo will clearly be in the national spotlight again next year. We’ll find out the answers to when those such games take place once the NFL releases the 2022 schedule at some point during the spring.

NFL insiders predict Bills as option for 2022 opener vs. Super Bowl champion Rams

Could the #Bills open 2022 NFL season against the #Rams? A few think it’s already the best option:

[mm-video type=playlist id=01eqbw1j59gmjw5gdj player_id=none image=https://billswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

The Buffalo Bills did not face the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl 56. That honor of being the AFC’s representative in the big game went to the Cincinnati Bengals.

However, the Bills are already being predicted by a few NFL analysts as a top option to be the first team to get a chance to hand the defending champs a loss.

The Rams will likely play on the first Thursday game of the 2022 season. That’s what the defending champs usually do. The opponent will be up in the air, but recently some buzz about the Bills being that club has come about.

First via NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo, we have a Buffalo prediction because… he thinks it’d be fun… or “sexy” in his words:

In addition, NFL.com’s Kevin Patra wrote the Bills-Rams matchup to open 2022 would be best because he thinks it should’ve already happened. Specifically, in Super Bowl 56:

In an alternate universe, the Bills and Rams met to crown the world championship this season. Buffalo has young star quarterback Josh Allen, who should be an MVP candidate in 2022. In addition, the Bills have stars on offense like Stefon Diggs and a defense that was among the best in the NFL this year. With the back-to-back AFC East winners on tap to travel to L.A., the league would get two marketable clubs with star QBs. Pitting the Bills and Rams to open the season would also offer a potential preview of Super Bowl LVII.

The one thing the Bills really have going for them is the fact that they did not land the Thursday Night Football opener a year ago. That went to the Dallas Cowboys against the Tampa Bay Bucs, and in turn, that gives Buffalo an edge over Dallas for 2022 because fans will clamor for something different.

However, the Cowboys are still a candidate as on on NFL.com’s suggestion list. They are “America’s Team,” after all. The third and final team is the Las Vegas Raiders.

It’s hard to argue that the Bills wouldn’t be the most attractive option for fans football simply looking for both teams to have fun in that first game of the year. You’ve got the title winners vs. the team many thought could have beaten them, led by a quarterback starting to be liked by everyone in Josh Allen.

But as of now, we’ll have to wait and see what happens.

Currently we only know who Buffalo will play in 2022 and where. No times and dates have been slated. That information will be released later this spring.

The only thing for sure is the Bills will play in Los Angeles… at some point.

Raiders 2022 opponents home and away, strength of schedule, future opponents

Here are Raiders 2022 opponents and beyond both home and away and strength of schedule

The Raiders offseason officially started today which means prep for next season begins immediately. While we won’t know the Raiders’ exact schedule for a few months, we do know which team they will be playing and where (barring any trips for an international game, of course).

Here are the Raiders’ 2022 opponents:

Home

Broncos, Chargers, Chiefs, Cardinals, Texans, Colts, Patriots, 49ers

Away

Broncos, Chargers, Chiefs, Jaguars, Rams, Saints, Steelers, Titans, Seahawks

Strength of schedule: .528 (7th)

How this breaks down:

Along with facing each division team twice, the Raiders face all teams in the AFC South and NFC West. They also face the teams in the AFC East, AFC North, and NFC South that finished second in their respective division as the Raiders did (Patriots, Steelers, Saints).

They have nine away games in 2022 because they had nine home games in 2021.

The strength of schedule is based on opponent records for the 2021 regular season. Raiders 2022 opponents had a collective 2021 regular-season record of 152-136-1. That’s tied with the Saints for the 7th strongest schedule and just behind the Chiefs (.533). See how they stack up here.

Future opponents:

2023

Home: Broncos, Chargers, Chiefs, Patriots, Jets, Packers, Vikings, AFC North team TBD, NFC East team TBD

Away: Broncos, Chargers, Chiefs, Bears, Lions, Dolphins, Bills, AFC South team TBD

2024

Home: Broncos, Chargers, Chiefs, Browns, Steelers, Falcons, Panthers, AFC South TBD

Away: Broncos, Chargers, Chiefs, Ravens, Bengals, Saints, Buccaneers, AFC East team TBD, NFC West team TBD

2022 Bengals schedule: List of opponents set

A quick look at who the Bengals will play in 2022.

From the looks of it right now, the Cincinnati Bengals won’t have an easy path during the 2022 NFL season based on their schedule of opponents.

That’s what happens when a team becomes a contender, though.

The Bengals aren’t finishing last in a division and getting similar opponents around the league anymore. They’ll host at least one playoff game this postseason and as AFC North champs, the schedule gets more difficult starting next year.

With the 2022 set of opponents finalized (the NFL will set the schedule this offseason), it seems the Bengals have a brutal slate of road games. Here’s a quick rundown of every team they’ll play in 2022.

Bengals 2022 schedule of opponents finalized ahead of playoffs

Here’s who the Bengals will play in 2022.

[mm-video type=video id=01fqyq8tzx8xsr4d5h16 playlist_id=none player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01fqyq8tzx8xsr4d5h16/01fwqyq8tzx8xsr4d5h16-74c8d4df62daf2f673e90c878ab779f0.jpg]

With divisions across the NFL settling into place ahead of the postseason, we now know the full 2022 set of opponents for the playoff-bound Cincinnati Bengals.

Here’s a look at who the Bengals will play on the 2022 schedule.

Home:

  • PIT
  • BAL
  • CLE
  • BUF
  • MIA
  • ATL
  • CAR
  • KC

Away:

  • PIT
  • BAL
  • CLE
  • NE
  • NYJ
  • NO
  • TB
  • TEN
  • DAL

The first big takeaway? That’s a brutal road slate against teams like the Saints, Patriots, Buccaneers, Titans and Cowboys. The Bengals were great on the road this season, but they’ll need a repeat showing.

Also on the docket? A rematch with the Chiefs, although Patrick Mahomes told Bengals players he thinks that will happen in the playoffs.

We’ll know more once the NFL irons out the specifics of the schedule this offseason, but for now, the Bengals know who they’ll be dancing with next year.

AFC North, Indianapolis Colts highlight the Eagles’ 2022 opponents

#AFCNorth and a matchup with Carson #Wentz and the Indianapolis #Colts highlight the Philadelphia #Eagles’ 2022 NFL opponents

The Eagles are just a few days away from playing their season finale at home against the Dallas Cowboys, but it’s never too early to start looking forward to 2022.

Philadelphia is a 2021 playoff team and they’ll finish in second-place within the NFC East, earning Nick Sirianni’s team a second-place schedule. Such a scenario would have Philadelphia facing their normal division foes twice (Dallas, Washington, New York), while also facing all four teams in the NFC North.

That’s not the most exciting aspect of the schedule and a trip to Indianapolis looms as one of the largest matchups on next season’s schedule.

Thursday night football moving to Amazon Prime a year early

Thursday night football moving to Amazon exclusively in 2022

The NFL had previously announced that Amazon prime had scored the rights to their Thursday night football package and per a Monday release from the league, that start time has been moved up a year to 2022.

Amazon will distribute Primetime’s second most-watched show across hundreds of compatible digital devices. The NFL’s original agreement with Amazon announced as part of a larger series of media distribution deals this past March, had Amazon Prime Video distributing Thursday Night Football starting with the 2023 season.

That means the 2021 season will be the last for Thursday Night Football on FOX, but the network will continue to produce the National Football Conference (NFC) package of Sunday afternoon games with a focus on America’s Game of the Week.

The NFL will see a bigger bump in revenue next year as part of the move and per Pro Football Talk, fans in the market of the teams playing will still have local television broadcast for their viewing pleasure.
