Updated post-Super Bowl 2022 NFL draft order

Now that that’s settled, we can really get into offseason mode.

The Super Bowl is over, and the Los Angeles Rams sit alone atop the mountain of the NFL. With that, the offseason is upon us and the first-round order of the 2022 NFL draft is set for the event that will take place at the end of April.

On Sunday, the Cincinnati Bengals and the Detroit Lions (originally the Rams’ pick) had their draft picks solidified as 31st and 32nd overall, respectively.

The Miami Dolphins’ front office, led by general manager Chris Grier, has the 29th overall pick in the first round as well as Nos. 59, 101. 119, 123, 157, 199, and 222, according to Tankathon.com. There’s also still a slim chance that the Dolphins end up with an additional compensatory pick through the formula.

Here is the full order for the first round of the draft:

  1. Jacksonville Jaguars
  2. Detroit Lions
  3. Houston Texans
  4. New York Jets
  5. New York Giants

Dolphins draft pick officially lands at No. 29 overall

Now, they just need to decide what to do with the pick.

While most teams are preparing for the 2022 NFL draft that’s just a few months away, the Miami Dolphins were waiting to find out where their pick would fall.

Their original draft pick (No. 15) was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles during last year’s draft, as Miami moved up the board to draft wide receiver Jaylen Waddle out of Alabama. However, the Dolphins still had the first-round pick that belonged to the San Francisco 49ers because Miami had traded back previously.

San Francisco’s campaign came to an end on Sunday when they lost to the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship game. This solidified the pick as No. 29 in this year’s draft.

With that information, Miami can now begin working on the next step and decide what they’d like to do with it. They could either use the draft pick and take a chance on a rookie, or they could trade the pick for a proven veteran who may have more of a chance to impact the team immediately. Either move would have their risks, as we just saw three rookies play huge roles for the Dolphins this past season.

Whatever they do, it will likely be a collaborative decision made by the front office and whoever ends up being the new head coach.

2022 NFL draft order: Top 28 picks locked in

As four teams continue their march toward the Super Bowl, the top 28 slots in the 2022 NFL draft are now set

Only four teams remain in the NFL playoffs following a wild divisional round in which every game was decided on the final play.

That also means that the top 28 slots in the 2022 NFL draft order are now set, as the rest of the league looks ahead to the offseason.

Here’s the updated list for this year’s first round (via Tankathon):

Dolphins’ first-round pick falls again after 49ers’ win vs. Packers

The pick can be no higher than No. 29.

After the Dolphins traded their first-round pick in 2021 to move up and select wide receiver Jaylen Waddle out of Alabama, they were left with just one first-round pick in 2022.

That pick was originally owned by the San Francisco 49ers, and its position will be determined by where they finish in the playoffs. Unfortunately for Miami, the 49ers keep winning. They defeated the Green Bay Packers 13-10 on Saturday to advance to the NFC championship game.

If San Francisco had lost to the Packers, the pick would’ve been 25th overall. Now, it can be no better than No. 29, and if the 49ers keep winning, the pick will obviously fall even further.

This may give the Dolphins more options for what to do with the pick. They may feel more inclined now to trade the pick for an established veteran than draft a player who could be considered the 29th-best in the draft.

Dolphins first-round pick falls again after 49ers’ win on Sunday

If the 49ers lose next week, the pick will fall to either 25th or 26th.

The Miami Dolphins season has come to a close, so fans and the organization are preparing for the next steps to make this team better.

For many, the NFL draft is the top thing on the mind. Miami traded their first-round pick in 2022 to move up and select wide receiver Jaylen Waddle last year, but they have the San Francisco 49ers’ pick from moving back originally.

Miami’s pick, which belongs to the Philadelphia Eagles, has been solidified at 15th overall. Because the 49ers have continued to win in the postseason, that pick hasn’t been finalized yet.

If the 49ers had lost in the first round, the pick would’ve been 22nd overall.

Now, if San Francisco were to lose in the divisional round to the Green Bay Packers, that draft pick would be either 25th or 26th. The final spot would depend on who else advances, as draft position for playoff teams eliminated in the same round is determined by the team’s regular season record.

2022 NFL draft: Jets hold 2 top-7 picks entering final week of regular season

The 4-12 Jets own two of the top seven picks in the 2022 NFL draft entering the final week of the regular season.

With 16 games in the books and just one left to play, the 4-12 Jets are in line for two of the first seven picks in the 2022 NFL draft.

Per NFL.com, New York has its own first-round selection at No. 4 and Seattle’s at No. 8. The Jets own the Seahawks’ first-rounder thanks to the Jamal Adams trade.

New York nearly upset the Buccaneers in Week 17, but fell victim to an all too familiar Tom Brady game-winning touchdown drive. The Jets had a chance to ice the game on 4th-and-2 leading 24-20 just before the final two-minute warning, as Tampa Bay did not have any timeouts remaining. However, a miscommunication led to a botched Zach Wilson quarterback sneak attempt and Brady promptly drove down the field and fired a go-ahead 33-yard touchdown to Cyril Grayson with 15 seconds left.

The Jets will have one last chance to get back into the win column this season when they travel to Buffalo to take on the Bills. New York’s Week 18 venture to Orchard Park won’t be like its most recent end-of-the-season trip deep into New York, as the Bills are still fighting for a division title and playoff seeding. The Jets will encounter Buffalo’s starters in their season finale, which wasn’t the case when they ended 2019 with a 13-6 win over the Bills’ backups.
