ESPN’s Zach Lowe reflects on potential Jaylen Brown trades for the Boston Celtics

Trades, of course, require two (or more) teams to agree on the deal, and that isn’t always a breeze.

The Boston Celtics are dominating the NBA media sphere at the moment, and for all the wrong reasons. After dropping yet more winnable games and making seemingly little progress despite some fairly substantial changes to the team’s front office, coaching staff, and rotation depth, analysts are beginning to wonder if trading as high a profile player as All-Star forward Jaylen Brown might actually be on the table.

One such thought experiment was conducted by host of the semi- eponymous ESPN “Lowe Post” podcast Zach Lowe with his guest, the esteemed Jeff Van Gundy. The former head coach and broadcaster debated if there were any potential trade packages out there that would be a solid deal for both sides, and found it was not such an easy task even if one believes such a move to be a wise one.

We, for the record, do not — but let’s look at some of what Lowe and Van Gundy had to say about several proposed trade packages.

WATCH: Have the Boston Celtics hit rock bottom this season?

And in case it needs to be said, this is NOT a challenge.

Have the Boston Celtics hit the absolute rock bottom of their 2021-22 NBA season, or are there further depths this club could possibly sink to? After losing several winnable games against teams good and bad both, it seems as if the team has hit the lowest low imaginable for a team some thought might make a deep run this postseason to come.

Now, the vultures are circling and fans and analysts alike are openly wondering whether even the team’s best players might be better off playing in a different uniform. And while it is almost certainly too soon to split up the Celtics’ two star wings just to see if that solves the recent poor play, it is almost guaranteed that the team will look notably different come the end of February.

The hosts of the CLNS Media “Garden Report” podcast recently found themselves in the position of debating whether the Celtics have gotten as bad as they can reasonably be assumed to get, and came to some uncomfortable conclusions.

WATCH: Do the Boston Celtics need a major shake-up or moves around the margins?

Just how much of an overhaul does this team need?

With the team hovering around .500 for another season, and the Boston Celtics seemingly unable to win consistently against even depleted opponents at home, few fans or analysts would argue that some sort of change isn’t needed.

But is it going to be a bombshell of a trade or a handful of minor ones that the front office deems the Celtics in need of? One thing everyone can agree on is the status quo is not working. However, plenty of issues, ranging from a lack of a pure point guard to a dearth of reliable shooters, can be pointed to.

The hosts of the CLNS Media “Garden Report” podcast Bob Ryan, Jeff Goodman and Gary Tanguay debate what the team needs to do to change its fortunes before their star players start getting second thoughts about where they want to be.

WATCH: Should the Boston Celtics blow it up after their ongoing inconsistent play?

One thing is certain – SOMETHING has to change.

Despite a major overhaul of the Boston Celtics’ front office, coaching staff, and several notable changes to their roster since seasons past, the team continues to languish as a .500 squad. With roughly half the season in the rear-view mirror and more than a season prior of such play to consider, is it time for a hard reset, or do the Celtics just need more time and smaller changes?

With murmurs for a major shake-up growing louder with each avoidable loss, the decision could ultimately end up being made before fans even arrive at a consensus, but one thing is definitely clear at present: this iteration of the Celtics is running out of time if the wins don’t start to come.

The hosts of the CLNS Media podcast “The Garden Report” recently got into a debate on whether it is time for Boston to blow it up, tear it down a bit, make moves around the margins or stay the course.

Watch the clip embedded above to hear what they have to say about what the Celtics need to do next.

WATCH: NBC Sports Boston’s Chris Mannix says Celtics loss to Minnesota Timberwolves ‘as ugly as it gets’

Where does Boston go from here?

The Boston Celtics appear to be in freefall after dropping a game on the road to a COVID-19 decimated Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday night, with fans having to slog through yet another night of the team failing to live up to even some fairly low expectations.

To be fair, the Celtics are dealing with some significant issues with players in the NBA’s health and safety protocols, but given their opponent was a weaker team on paper even before it was hit with similar absences suggests something structural needs attention — and fast if the Ime Udoka head coaching era is to not go down in flames.

What can the team do to turn things around? Are big trades inevitable? NBC Sports Boston’s Chris Mannix talks with Amina Smith about the status quo of the Celtics after the painful loss.

Watch the clip embedded above to hear what Mannix has to say about Boston’s woes — and what needs to improve to fix them.

WATCH: What can the Boston Celtics do to get better in the short term?

And will having more veteran voices around help ease the process?

How can the Boston Celtics improve their team? DO they need to make a big splash as soon as possible? Or would it make more sense to hit a bunch of singles to borrow a metaphor from another sport? And just how much can bringing in more veteran voices as the team did by signing Joe Johnson help the Celtics’ fortunes moving forward?

Without the treasure chest of draft picks that Boston held under the previous regime of former President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge (and with some of his mistakes still yet to be undone), the Celtics have work to do to improve the roster under new team president Brad Stevens.

What tools are available and what direction should the franchise take? The hosts of the eponymous CLNS Media “Cedric Maxwell” podcast, Maxwell and co-host Josue Pavon talk about how Boston can improve itself, the addition of Joe Johnson, how former Celtics point guard Isaiah Thomas is fairing in his return to the league, and more.

Check out the clip embedded above to get their takes on all things Celtics in the news cycle of the moment.

WATCH: What’s the plan for Dennis Schroder and the Boston Celtics – trade or keep?

He likely won’t be back next season – does it make more sense to move him for something now before he walks for free?

The Boston Celtics will almost certainly not be able to match the offers for veteran point guard Dennis Schroder this coming offseason given the rules of the NBA in the league’s collective bargaining agreement (CBA) limit what the Celtics can pay the German floor general to about $7 million — likely well below what other teams can offer him.

With that in mind and with the team dangerously low on assets to make improvements in this and future seasons, there has been a current of fans and analysts both who have always viewed the Schroder signing as a short-term alliance that should end with Boston moving the vet to a contender in exchange for something the team can make use of in the future.

Are we seeing signs that’s the case from the team in recent days? And if so, what can the Celtics reasonably hope to get back from such a deal? Is there any way Boston finds itself in a situation keeping him on the team makes more sense?

The hosts of the CLNS Media podcast “The Garden Report” ask themselves these questions in the most recent episode of the show — watch the clip embedded above to hear their takes.

Celtics Lab 80: A Boston Celtics Festivus for the rest of us to get some gripes off of our chests

We’ve got a lot of problems with things, and now you’re going to hear about them.

The Boston Celtics are seemingly stuck at around .500 midway through yet another season that was supposed to be the campaign that saw them finally ascend to contender status while a large part of the roster (and for that matter, the NBA) is in the league’s health and safety protocol after testing positive for COVID-19 despite the majority of the team being vaccinated.

Between all this, the political zoo appearing on our televisions and cell phones on a daily basis, and a host of other disappointing to downright frightening things going on in the world at the moment, there is no limit to the things fans of the Celtics could — and should — be complaining about.

To that end, on this week’s episode of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast, hosts Justin Quinn, Alex Goldberg, and Cameron Tabatabaie host a Festivus-inspired airing of the grievances for all things Boston Celtics, NBA, and beyond.

WATCH: Should the Boston Celtics take a step back to take two forward?

Or are they good enough to push chips in now?

This Boston Celtics team can be so infuriating, beating some of the toughest teams in the league on some nights, and losing games to bad teams on the next. They show enough to see they will one day be a very good team, but with their inconsistent play is it fair to believe it will be this season?

And if not, should the Celtics maximize selling off contracts of players who won’t be with the franchise moving forward instead of chasing after another first-round exit? Just how good of a team does it need to be to really be worth investing in?

This is the debate going on between the hosts of the CLNS Media podcast “Celtics Stuff Live” Justin Poulin and Jon Duke in the most recent episode of their pod.

Watch the clip embedded above to hear their points of view on what the team ought to do ahead of the 2022 trade deadline.

WATCH: Which strategies make the most sense for the Boston Celtics to pursue to improve the team?

ESPN’s cap guru Bobby Marks talks with NBC Sports Boston’s Chris Forsberg on what the Celtics should do next.

What should the Boston Celtics be doing now to ensure they are a better team for the future? Does the chemistry of keeping veteran players like Marcus Smart, Al Horford, Dennis Schroder and Josh Richardson around for the rest of the season beat out developing younger players and reaping the benefits of the draft assets and young or star players they might fetch on the open market? And just how much should the team be playing its recent draft picks this season for that matter?

The team’s front office has these and a lot of similar questions to consider in the coming weeks as the 2021-22 trade season begins to heat up, and the choices they make could ultimately prove critical to the club’s fortunes in the Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum era.

Host of the NBC Sports Boston podcast “Celtics Talk” Chris Forsberg talked with ESPN cap guru Bobby Marks about how the Celtics should be approaching this critical juncture in terms of team building.

The duo also discussed the fit of players like Domantas Sabonis and Damian Lillard, Danny Ainge’s new gig with the Utah Jazz, and more.

Watch the clip embedded above to hear what they have to say on these important issues.
