Good things happen for the Boston Celtics when Derrick White is on the court

Could the key to the Boston Celtics’ success in the 2023 NBA postseason to simply play guard Derrick White more minutes?

Could the key to the Boston Celtics‘ success in the 2023 NBA postseason to simply play guard Derrick White more minutes? When the Colorado native has played heavy minutes for the Celtics this season into the playoffs, Boston has done very well regardless of who the opponent on the other side of the basketball court is.

A more confident, settled version of White has at times been Boston’s best player since the month of January, with the University of Colorado alum making life easier on the court for stars Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum offensively while being a league leader in blocks and charges by a guard.

NBC Sports Boston’s Chris Forsberg recently broke down how important White is to the Celtics’ playoff aspirations on his regular “Forsberg’s Four” segment.

Check out the conversation he had about it with Tim Giles in the clip embedded above.

Are the Boston Celtics favored to win the 2023 NBA championship?

Given all the issues other teams are dealing with, is it fair to say the path is easiest for Boston?

The Boston Celtics have encountered more resistance than they may have expected from the Atlanta Hawks in the first round of the 2023 Eastern Conference playoffs. However, they are also not seen — yet — as being at risk of not advancing to the next round.

If they advance, they will have to play a Philadelphia 76ers squad they have had great success at beating. In addition, the Sixers have a partially hobbled Joel Embiid, who is dealing with a knee sprain.

Beyond that, the Milwaukee Bucks have an injured star, Giannis Antetokounmpo, trying to play through injury and are on the ropes against the surprising Miami Heat. Injuries, inexperience and inconsistency are factors for all of Western Conference teams that might make it to the 2023 NBA Finals.

The hosts of the CLNS Media “Ryan, Goodman, and Tanguay” podcast recently debated if the path is easiest for Boston.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear what they had to say.

Why Derrick White is the Boston Celtics’ Most Valuable Player

Is it a wild position to take that veteran Boston Celtics combo guard Derrick White is the Celtics’ most valuable player?

Given how strong his play has been this season — particularly since January — it is not a wild position to take that veteran Boston Celtics combo guard Derrick White is the Celtics’ most valuable player.

And while White might not rise to the level of a league-wide MVP, the Colorado native has been the most consistent member of the team’s roster this season. Playing in all 82 games (the only one on the team to do so), White has been rock solid on defense while also being able to ramp up his offense when called on to do so.

If we have not convinced you, take a look at the clip embedded below to see if the hosts of the CLNS Media “A-List” podcast can.

A. Sherrod Blakely, Gary Washburn and Kwani A. Lunis recently debated how valuable White has been this season; see if you agree with their takes in the clip above.

Best of Payton Pritchard with the Boston Celtics in 2022-23

The Oregon alum has been a consummate professional, staying ready for whenever Boston might need him to step into a bigger role.

Even though we saw far less of the West Lynn native than we (and very likely he) were hoping for in the 2022-23 NBA season, reserve point guard Payton Pritchard made the most of his floor time when he did get the call in a crowded Boston Celtics backcourt.

The former Oregon player has been a consummate professional, staying ready for whenever Boston might need him to step into a bigger role due to an injury, foul trouble or beneficial matchup. Pritchard averaged 5.6 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 41.2% from the floor, 36.4% from beyond the arc, and 75% from the free-throw line.

Is Malcolm Brogdon the missing piece for the Boston Celtics?

The former Rookie of the Year has been nothing short of amazing with the Celtics this season, and could very well be the final step Boston needed to win it all.

The Boston Celtics were so close to winning it all last season that they could taste it, only to see the Golden State Warriors crush their dreams of Banner 18 in 2022 in six games — and on the Celtics own court at that.

Now, the Celtics are back in the hunt with reinforcements, chief of which is veteran floor general and 2023 NBA Sixth Man of the Year Malcolm Brogdon.

Could the onetime Virginia player be the missing piece for Boston to finally hang that banner? The former Rookie of the Year has been nothing short of amazing with the Celtics this season, and he could very well be the final piece Boston needed to win it all.

To talk it over, NBC Sports Boston’s Chris Forsberg and Tom Giles dived into his arrival to the Celtics and how he is helping them reach new heights.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear what they had to say about Brogdon’s boost for Boston.

Best of Al Horford with the Boston Celtics in 2022-23

In the 2022-23 NBA season, the Florida alum has been having another excellent campaign, averaging 9.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.0 blocks per game.

For a long time, casual fans of the Boston Celtics just did not get how important veteran big man Al Horford was to the ball club. Then he left in free agency.

Now, in a second stint with the Celtics, Boston fans get it — from his amazing defense, ability to flip the switch to an offense menace inside or out, or his leadership on the team.

In the 2022-23 NBA season, the onetime Florida standout has been having another excellent campaign, averaging 9.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 block per game while shooting a sizzling 44.6% from beyond the arc, 47.6% from the floor and 71.4% from the charity stripe.

Jayson Tatum included in NBA’s compilation of every 50-point game of 2022-23

The NBA has been undergoing something of an offensive renaissance this season, with a ton of 50-point games, including Tatum’s.

The NBA has been undergoing something of an offensive renaissance this season. The large number of 50-point games is evidence of the scoring explosion that has been one of the hallmarks of 2022-23.

Giannis Antetokounmpo, Devin Booker, Stephen Curry, Anthony Davis, Luka Doncic and Joel Embiid are not exactly huge surprises to have had such games, but (respectfully) was anyone expecting a 50-piece from Darius Garland, Jrue Holiday or Julius Randle? Damian Lillard, Donovan Mitchell, Pascal Siakam and Klay Thompson also dropped 50-burgers this season, as did star Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum.

As fans of the Celtics (why else would you be here?), however, we’re sure you’re most interested in the Duke alum’s 50-piece this season, which the NBA has included in a compilation of all such outings from the Association’s 022-23 campaign.

Best of Malcolm Brogdon with the Boston Celtics in 2022-23

To see for yourself the best of the play that won him the Sixth Man honors for this season, check out this highlight reel of his 2022-23 play.

With his performance in the Boston Celtics’ regular season, veteran floor general Malcolm Brogdon won the NBA’s 2023 Sixth Man of the Year award, the first Celtics player to get that particular piece of hardware since Hall of Fame big man Bill Walton in 1986.

The onetime Virginia standout was what Boston needed this season to maintain focus and efficacy from the bench unit. Brogdon’s 14.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists per contest were nothing to sneeze at, especially considering his blistering 44.4% 3-point shooting efficiency ranked among the best in the league.

To see for yourself the best of the play that won him the sixth man honors, take a look at the highlight reel embedded below that was assembled by fan videographer Tomasz Kordylewski.

Best Boston Celtics bench reactions in 2022-23

With the second-best record in the league for the 2022-23 regular season, there have been a LOT of celebrations emanating from the Boston bench.

The Boston Celtics might not have forward Malik Fitts on their bench anymore to lead his next-level bench celebrations, but the ball club still manages to deploy the so-called “Bus 1 Boys” and whoever else might be off of the court at any given moment for some pretty intense support for their teammates.

And with the second-best record in the league for the 2022-23 regular season, there have been a LOT of celebrations by the Boston bench, many of them being nearly as memorable as the play they were inspired by in the first place.

To honor the intensity of support for the Celtics coming from their own reserves, fan videographer Tomasz Kordylewski put together a compilation of the very best bench celebrations of the Celtics’ 2022-23 campaign.

To see it for yourself, take a look at the clip embedded above.

Best of Derrick White with the Boston Celtics in 2022-23

Emerging as a real third option for Boston at just the right moment, the Colorado native has become a critical part of what it takes for the Celtics to win this season.

If there has been an unexpected X-factor for the Boston Celtics in the 2022-23 NBA season, it has been veteran guard Derrick White. He has grown into a major role with the Celtics after gaining familiarity with his (relatively) new club.

He is the only player on Boston’s roster who has played all 82 regular-season contests. He earned a starting role as a byproduct of averaging 12.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 0.9 blocks per game while shooting a career-high (38.1%) from beyond the arc at volume.

Emerging as a real third option for Boston at just the right moment, the Colorado native has become a critical part of what it takes for the Celtics to win this season.
