Watch: Texans rookie safety Calen Bullock record third interception

Houston Texans rookie safety Calen Bullock recorded his third interception of his rookie season to get the ball back to his offense

Green Bay Packers Xavier McKinney leads the NFL interceptions with five picks.

Houston Texans rookie safety Calen Bullock is close behind at halftime after securing his third interception of the season just before the end of the first half of Week 7’s matchup at Lambeau Field.

Bullock picked off Packers quarterback Jordan Love on their first offensive snap with three minutes remaining in the second quarter.

It’s the third Texans takeaway in the first half.

Houston’s offense has struggled to move the ball on offense but has used its two previous takeaways to score 10 points. Bullock, who also picked off New England Patriots passer Drake Maye last week, is one of five players with three or more interceptions entering Sunday.

The USC product has seen a steady increase in playing time throughout the early part of his rookie season. He got his first start as a result of veteran Jimmie Ward missing a game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Bullock was a third-round pick in April’s NFL Draft. Texans general manager Nick Caserio has had plenty of success in the third round, including Nico Collins, Tank Dell and Christian Harris.

The Texans will begin the second half on offense.

Texans finalize 2021 preseason schedule

The Houston Texans have finalized their 2021 NFL preseason schedule.

The Houston Texans have finalized their preseason schedule for the 2021 exhibition campaign.

The Texans will open up preseason with a trip to Lambeau Field to take on the Green Bay Packers on Saturday, Aug. 14 at 7:00 p.m. Central Time.

Houston stays on the road once more as they travel to AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, to face the Dallas Cowboys at 7:00 p.m. Central Time on Saturday, Aug. 21.

The only preseason game at NRG Stadium for 2021 is on Saturday, Aug. 28 at 7:00 p.m. Central Time when the Texans host the Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

2021 will be the first time the Texans will have just three preseason games. From 2002-19, Houston would have two road preseason games and two home preseason games. In 2021, with the move to 17 games, that extra home preseason game has been converted to a home regular season game, giving the Texans nine games at home and eight on the road when the games are for real.

Texans coach David Culley excited to begin 2021 season against an AFC South opponent

Houston Texans coach David Culley is excited to get the 2021 season started off against an AFC South opponent in the Jacksonville Jaguars.

David Culley will make his coaching debut on Sunday, Sept. 12, when the new-look Houston Texans open their 2021 season against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The game will feature the highly anticipated debut of Trevor Lawrence under center for the Jaguars, which has the Texans opening the season as a 1.5-point underdog — according to BetMGM

To Culley, it doesn’t matter who is the starting quarterback for the Jaguars. It’s all about getting the season off to a great start against an AFC South opponent.

“When we are sitting there talking about the next year, one of your goals is to win your division,” Culley told Texans’ TV host Drew Dougherty after the release of the 2021 schedule. “We are playing a divisional opponent. That’s exciting. We get to start early to let everyone know what and who we are. Right away and in the division.”

This will be the first time the Texans will open their regular-season schedule against the Jaguars since 2017. Houston lost their home opener that season in a 29-7 defeat. Deshaun Watson made his NFL debut in the loss after subbing for Tom Savage following a subpar first half.

Since dropping their season opener in 2017, the Texans have registered a 6-1 record against the Jaguars. Oddsmakers have the Texans’ win total set at 4.5 with the possibility of getting swept in the AFC South, according to ESPN’s Sarah Barshop.

The Houston Texans announced their full 2021 NFL schedule.

It was known earlier Wednesday that the Texans would host the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1 at NRG Stadium. It is the first time the Texans will open up at home since 2017, when they incidentally played the Jaguars.

However, the Texans and Jaguars will both be debuting new coaches as David Culley will see his first action on the sidelines going against Urban Meyer. Both are rookie coaches, but had different routes to getting the top jobs for their respective clubs.

As the Texans work through their roster challenges, including who will be the starting quarterback, Houston takes on the rest of the AFC South, the AFC East, the NFC West, their same-place finishers — Los Angeles Chargers and Cleveland Browns — and the new 17th game, which will be against the Carolina Panthers.

Here is a look at the entire Texans schedule.

The Week 18 game has a little bit of a twist to it:

“We’re just kind of getting started here,” general manager Nick Caserio said at the Texans’ charity golf classic on Monday. “Football season is just about to start. We’re excited about the opportunity in front of us and I think that’s the most important thing is just focus on today and just keep moving forward.”
