Must see: A top-prospect shares Notre Dame acceptance letter

Getting accepted to your dream school is an incredible accomplishment, and a star Notre Dame recruit shared his experience with the public.

For any living being with a heartbeat, the moment in the movie “Rudy” when our hero surprises his father with a visit to the steel mill and shows him his acceptance letter to the University of Notre Dame.

The dad is understandably thrilled and shares the news with all of his co-workers by getting on the loud-speaker at the mill.

It’s not the same circumstances by most measures but it was still a cool video to watch on Wednesday when one of Notre Dame’s top commitments in the 2021 recruiting class, offensive guard Rocco Spindler, shared his acceptance letter from Notre Dame with his father.

Spindler shared the video on his Twitter page Wednesday:

A few great parts from this include, but not limited to:

  • “Hey dad, you mind reading this?  Notre Dame sent me something, I gotta go do something”
  • Dad responds with, “It looks like it’s made out to you”
  • The obvious happiness that fills that house upon the elder Mr. Spindler reading the news loud enough for all to hear.

Congratulations on the accomplishment, Rocco, and thanks for sharing.

Top ’21 receiver in Michigan sets commitment date; Notre Dame a player

Andrel Anthony is a 6-2, 175 pound receiver from Lansing, Michigan and has included Notre Dame in his most recent top four schools, which he released exactly a month ago.

Notre Dame currently has one wide receiver commitment in their 2021 recruiting class, four-star Lorenzo Styles of Pickerington, Ohio.

They’ll know if a second receiver joins that class in just over a week as the top ranked receiver in Michigan has announced when his commitment will be announced.

Andrel Anthony is a 6-2, 175 pound receiver from Lansing, Michigan and has included Notre Dame in his most recent top four schools, which he released exactly a month ago.

Now Anthony is nearing his decision as he today announced that he’ll be making his announcement on what is usually the MLB trade deadline, July 31.

An announcement about a future announcement.  Does anything scream “college football” nearly as much?

As for the kind of player Anthony is and what Notre Dame, Michigan, Michigan State or Penn State will be getting – he’s a roughly top-100 receiver in the class who is said to be a great route-runner and possesses great ball tracking skills.

He could also use to add more than a couple pounds of muscle and a little more speed as well.

Stay tuned to Fighting Irish Wire as we’ll have all of the information in regards to Anthony’s decision next week!

Notre Dame Makes Final Five for Top Offensive Guard

Rocco Spindler is a must-get for Notre Dame in the 2021 recruiting class. It’s now between the Irish ad four other powers for his commitment

Notre Dame’s 2021 recruiting plan hasn’t exactly gone according to plan in the last couple months.  There is still plenty of work to do but they did get some much-needed good news at a position of need on Friday.

Rocco Spindler, a four-star guard and what feels like a must-get for Notre Dame, listed the Irish in his “final five”.  Notre Dame makes the cut but will still have to outdo a few blue-bloods to win Spindler’s commitment.

A final five of LSU, Penn State, Notre Dame, Michigan and Ohio State speaks volumes as to the level of recruit you’re looking at here.

I’d imagine likely early playing time would be a selling point for Notre Dame.  Spindler also told 247Sports of the Irish:

“I got to go with Notre Dame. At Notre Dame, you’re going to be challenged with education, off the field and on the field as well. Coach Quinn, coach Kelly, I love those guys.”

It appears Notre Dame and Michigan are the two favorites here and that battle seems like a coin-toss at this point.

Spindler will be a huge addition for whichever school he ultimately chooses as he’s ranked by 247Sports Composite Rankings as the second best guard in the 2021 class.

Maybe the luck will be on Notre Dame’s side and Spindler will have another chance run-in with Lou Holtz.

Notre Dame Misses Out on Prized ’21 Corner

Notre Dame was in Devin Kirkwood’s “final five” that was released just over a week ago but wound up missing out to a Pac-12 school Thursday.

After getting tough but expected news about running back Will Shipley last week, Notre Dame quickly bounced back getting a pair of commitments by weeks end from defensive back Philip Riley and defensive end Jason Onye.

They had also been mentioned by four-star defensive back Devin Kirkwood as making his top five but the Gardena (Junipera Serra), California product chose elsewhere Thursday, making a commitment to UCLA.

Notre Dame’s list of commitments instead stays at ten as of May 14 with a pair of defensive backs included in that with Riley and Justin Walters of Bolingbrook, Illinois.  Notre Dame will continue to look near and far for more secondary help in the class.

Kirkwood becomes just the third commitment for UCLA who now ranks 71st overall in the 247Sports team rankings for 2021.
