Is T.J. Watt’s dominant start foreshadowing another D.P.O.Y award?

T.J. Watt’s 2024 campaign showcases dominance, aiming for his second D.P.O.Y. award with elite performances in his 8 games played.

T.J. Watt continues to prove week in and week out that he is a force to be reckoned with for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Whether he is sacking the quarterback, forcing a fumble, or stuffing the run, one thing remains certain—Watt is inevitable.

Watt’s 2024 resume speaks for itself. Through 8 games played, his four forced fumbles are tied for first, his ten tackles for loss are tied for second, his nine QB hits are tied for fifth, and his six and a half sacks are tied for ninth.

The former 2021 D.P.O.Y. winner is looking to build on this fantastic statistical output and put together an undeniable campaign to win the illustrious award for a second time.

DraftKings currently has Watt as the odds-on favorite to win the award through nine weeks, ahead of elite defenders such as Kansas City Chiefs’ DT Chris Jones, New York Giants’ DT Dexter Lawrence, Houston Texans’ EDGE Will Anderson Jr., and Detroit Lions Safety Kerby Joseph.

Can Watt achieve his second D.P.O.Y. award in 2024, or will his efforts result in him being snubbed once again?

Watch: Notre Dame football levels up on season recap video

Leveling up in 2021

Although this past season was not quiet as successful as last year, going 11-1, their only loss to a College Football Playoff participant in Cincinnati, and making a New Year’s Six bowl game is still one hell of a season.

What makes it even better is when the official Notre Dame Football Twitter account creates a video to recap the season. With social media being such an important part of programs in this age of football, having a staff that puts out great content is paramount. The Irish have exactly that and once again shared a video recapping this great season. Take a look for yourself below.

POLL: Which playoff loss is Chiefs’ biggest missed opportunity?

In our latest poll, we ask #Chiefs fans to reflect on the team’s biggest missed opportunity in the playoffs.

[crowdsignal poll=12335621]

Playoff success has become synonymous with Kansas City Chiefs football in recent years, but it certainly wasn’t always the case. This team has seen some crushing losses in the playoffs, from the earliest rounds to the games that could send them to the Super Bowl.

Our friend Mark Lane at Touchdown Wire, recently recapped some of the most exciting playoff runs that didn’t result in a Super Bowl win. The article got us thinking about the playoff opportunities the Chiefs have failed to take advantage of, especially those in the AFC Championship Game.

Lane coved the Chiefs’ 1993 playoffs run with Joe Montana, which ended at the AFC title game when Montana went down with a concussion and was replaced by Dave Krieg. The biggest problem was that the Kansas City defense was unable to stop Thurman Thomas, who recorded over 200 scrimmage yards and three touchdowns in the victory.

Could that loss be considered the team’s biggest missed opportunity in the playoffs? There is certainly an argument to be made, but there are others in more recent memory that should also be in consideration.

Since taking over as the team’s starting quarterback in 2018, Patrick Mahomes has known nothing but AFC title game appearances. It certainly feels like the team let the stage get the best of them back in 2018. It was the team’s first AFC title game appearance since that 1993 game and while the offense performed admirably, the defense fell short in a crucial moment. Dee Ford’s offsides penalty led to the inevitable Tom Brady game-winning drive in overtime.

Even more recently, the Chiefs’ collapse to the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2021 AFC Championship Game should be considered. K.C. had a commanding 11-point lead at halftime before the team’s offense disappeared in the second half and allowed the Bengals back into the game. Cincinnati would go on to lose to the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LVI.

So what do you think, Chiefs Kingdom? Which AFC title game loss is the biggest missed opportunity in the playoffs for Kansas City? Let us know your thoughts on Facebook and Twitter.

Auburn ranked second-most boring NCAA football team in survey

The other teams included Buffalo, Boston College, Appalachian State and Baylor.

Tigers fans may always tune in to watch Auburn, but it seems as if other college football fans would rather pass.

In a new survey by company TickPick, an online marketplace for ticket sales, Auburn was ranked the second-most boring team in college football last year. Auburn was only beat out by the Buffalo Bulls and was deemed more boring than Boston College, Baylor, and Appalachian State.

It’s understandable why general fans of college football may think this. A large reason may be its woes at quarterback — after QB Bo Nix got injured against Mississippi State in mid-November, the Tigers averaged around 13 points per game and lost out. One of those games included a slogfest against rival school Alabama that resulted in an overtime loss to the Crimson Tide, who many neutral fans were probably hoping would lose that game.

The survey also included some other stats regarding Auburn. The Iron Bowl was considered the second-most iconic rivalry in college football by the survey at 12 percent of the votes, only being surpassed by Army-Navy at 17 percent. Its rivalry with Georgia, however, was far less regarded — The Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry was deemed the third-least iconic rivalry with 4 percent of votes.

[autotag]Bryan Harsin[/autotag] and his staff will certainly hope to put all college football fans on notice and play some exciting football in his second year as Auburn’s head coach.

K.J. Wright tells Will Compton why he didn’t re-sign with Seahawks in 2021

Wright recalled his 2021 offseason, in which he went months without receiving a single call from an NFL team

Long-time former Seattle Seahawks linebacker K.J. Wright recently sat down with fellow Raiders LB Will Compton on his podcast to discuss his career in the Emerald City and his current relationship with the Seahawks organization. Wright recalled his 2021 offseason, in which he went months without receiving a single call from an NFL team before he eventually signed a one-year contract with Las Vegas. He found this perplexing, as he turned in a solid 2020 season at age 31.

“Yeah so, I put together a very, very… in my eyes, a Ring of Honor career. . . I just did, got the Super Bowls, got the Pro Bowls, almost got 1,000 tackles in Seattle… I’m, like, seven, eight away. I just had a stellar career. Cracked the [NFL] Top 100 for the first time, No. 67. But if you look at that list, I’m the only guy that was a free agent. I’m like, ‘How the hell did I put together this really good career, first of all, put together this really good year 10 and don’t nobody want me?'”

When Compton pressed Wright about the possibility of returning to the Seahawks, Wright revealed he had discussions with coach Pete Carroll about the situation he would find himself in if he returned, as they had young linebackers Jordyn Brooks and Cody Barton waiting in the wings.

“When it came down to sign with the Raiders, I called Pete. I said, ‘Pete, I’ve got this offer on the table, I really don’t want to leave. I don’t want to leave, I want to stay in Seattle. Is there anything we can do? I’ll take a lesser role, I understand you want to play Jordyn, I’ll come off the field. What can we do so I stay in Seattle?’ He’s like, ‘Ah KJ, I hate this. Let me talk to [general manager] John [Schneider] and let’s see if we can get something done.'”

Ultimately, it seemed like the Seahawks were confident enough in their future at the linebacker position to refrain from giving Wright what he wanted in regards to money, even though he told Compton he would have accepted being in a reduced role in 2021.

“…I gave the city everything I had. I gave these people every ounce in my body, and some stuff just doesn’t make sense, organization-wise, like, how and why do you let me leave the building when I’m willing to take a lesser role, when I’m willing to still give you all that I got? Like, why? It don’t make sense to me, especially when I extend the olive branch in saying: ‘Can we work something out?'”

Regardless of Wright’s feelings toward the organization, he will be remembered fondly in Seahawks history as an underrated component of the team’s run of success over the past decade by fans and former teammates alike.

Chiefs S Tyrann Mathieu named Derrick Thomas MVP for 2021

The #Chiefs have selected S Tyrann Mathieu as their Derrick Thomas MVP winner for the 2021 NFL season.

The Kansas City Chiefs have announced their team MVP for the 2021 NFL season.

The award is aptly named after Chiefs legend Derrick Thomas, a perennial standout defender and one of the best pass rushers in NFL history who tragically passed away in 2000. The latest player bestowed this award is none other than Tyrann Mathieu, who is taking home his second Derrick Thomas MVP Award in his three seasons with the team. He earned his first following the team’s Super Bowl-winning season in 2019, which was his first on the team. He now becomes the seventh Chiefs player to win the award multiple times, joining Jamaal Charles, Eric Berry, Priest Holmes, Trent Green, Marcus Allen and Thomas as the only players to accomplish that feat.

Mathieu started in 16 games during the 2021 regular season, recording 76 total tackles (tied for second-most on the team), one sack, three fumble recoveries (most on the team), one tackle for loss, six passed defended, three interceptions (most on the team) and one defensive touchdown. The defense saw its challenges this season, but Mathieu remained steadfast in his production and on-field leadership.

Mathieu’s exemplary performance on and off the field earned him the team’s nomination for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. Fans voted him as the Nationwide Walter Payton Man of the Year Charity Challenge winner.

The veteran goes into the 2022 NFL offseason with questions about his future with the team as a pending free agent. That said, there are no questions about the type of player that he’s been during his time in Kansas City.

6 Chiefs among PFF Top 101 players of 2021

Several #Chiefs players made PFF’s Top 101 players of 2021 list. Find out where they ranked and what was said about them here:

Pro Football Focus has released its annual list of the top 101 players in the NFL. The list is comprised solely based on player performances during the 2021 season and postseason. They also don’t take into account positional value in their rankings.

In 2020, the Chiefs had just four players in PFF’s top 101, but all of them ranked in the top 25. This time around two new players made it onto the list, one who was added via the 2021 NFL draft and another via free agency. Let’s go through what PFF’s Sam Monson had to say about each of the players, and provide our take on their rankings.

Seahawks WR DK Metcalf says he played through foot injury in 2021

The third-year wideout sat down with reporter Taylor Rooks to briefly discuss the process of his rehabilitation and his current state of mind.

After posting a picture of his left foot in a protective boot on Instagram, Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf confirmed that he had played through an injury throughout the 2021 season and had surgery on his foot following its conclusion.

The third-year wideout sat down with reporter Taylor Rooks to briefly discuss the process of his rehabilitation and his current state of mind.

“I just started walking on it a couple days ago,” Metcalf said. “My rehab’s going to be like another month before I’m full go.”

Metcalf told Rooks that he kept quiet about his injury because it did not bother him enough to miss time on the field and he intended to wind down after the season ended.

“I don’t think it affected me that much. I missed a practice day a week when I found out what happened to my foot, but it really didn’t affect me that much.”

Metcalf is entering a contract year, so the Seahawks must make a decision on his future in the coming months. He will hopefully remain in the Emerald City, but he could ask for top dollar given his production over his first three seasons and we will see whether or not Seattle decides to pony up.
