Get to know Ravens LB Patrick Queen through these highlights

After the Baltimore Ravens selected LB Patrick Queen in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, get to know their newest LB sensation.

The Baltimore Ravens addressed one of their biggest question marks this offseason in a big way by selecting LSU linebacker Patrick Queen with the No. 28 pick overall in the 2020 NFL Draft.

There was concern that Queen, one of the team’s top prospects and a popular mock draft choice, wouldn’t be available that late in the first round. However, the Football Gods seemed to have smiled on Baltimore once again.

While some scouting reports showed concerns over Queen’s smaller size and lack of starting experience, it only take a few minutes of watching his film to get excited about what he brings to the Ravens. Queen’s high football-IQ and playmaking ability give Baltimore a strong vision of the future with a young, commanding presence at interior linebacker, something that had been missing since C.J. Mosley departed after the 2018 season.

Take a look at Queen’s best highlights from his time at LSU.

Queen finished his 2019 season at LSU with 85 tackles, 12 for a loss, 3 sacks, and an interception. His speed, vision, and natural instincts for the position make him a perfect addition to the Ravens’ defense immediately while signaling an even brighter future for the team.

The Baltimore Ravens aren’t even on the clock yet and we already have our first fireworks of the night in the 2020 NFL Draft. The Cincinnati Bengals had the first-overall pick and to the surprise of nobody, they selected LSU quarterback Joe Burrow.

The Ravens’ newest addition, defensive end Calais Campbell, wasted no time in, shall we say, “welcoming” the Bengals rookie to the NFL. Campbell tweeted congratulations to Burrow but also tossed out a little bit of a threat in the process, saying he can’t want to get “properly acquainted.”

Campbell joined Baltimore this offseason via a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Ravens sent a fifth-round pick to Jacksonville in exchange for Campbell, who signed a one-year extension to create a more manageable cap hit. With Baltimore general manager Eric DeCosta having made overhauling the Ravens defensive front a top priority, fans are no doubt eager to see how the changes, which include Campbell, fare in the coming season.

Campbell will have plenty of opportunities to acquaint himself with Burrow, playing Cincinnati twice a season as division rivals. Considering Campbell has sacked quarterbacks 31.5 times over the last three seasons, Burrow might get tired of constantly being acquainted with Campbell and the Ravens.

3 early-round draft picks for Ravens to replace Marshal Yanda

The Baltimore Ravens have options to replace retiring guard Marshal Yanda, including a few early-round prospects in the 2020 NFL Draft.

An era of excellence is coming to an end for the Baltimore Ravens, with the news that guard Marshal Yanda is set to retire from the NFL. Yanda has been a bedrock of the Ravens offensive line since they took him in the third round of the 2007 NFL draft, starting 166 of the 177 games he has played. Since 2007, the Ravens have amassed the fourth-most rushing yards in the entire NFL with an appreciable chunk of their 25,883 yards coming thanks to Yanda doing work on the offensive line.

Yanda’s retirement, while maybe not totally unexpected, could force a re-think in the Ravens’ strategy with regards to team building this offseason. They could look to free agency to plug the gap left by Yanda, assuming they don’t want to hand the job to a player already on the roster. Or they could look to the NFL Draft. This is not considered a great year for interior offensive linemen, but there are few options should the Ravens want to spend a very early pick on one. Here are three names the Ravens may consider taking with their first selection.

Cesar Ruiz – Michigan

Ruiz spent most of his time with the Wolverines at Center, earning the title of “Best Pass Blocking Center” in the country by PFF College in 2018. But he did play five games at guard during his time in the collegiate ranks and could slide over there once in the NFL. Ruiz has a track record of playing on productive offenses, both through the air and on the ground. According to his bio on the Wolverine website, as a senior at IMG Academy, Ruiz “anchored an offensive line that helped the offense produce 2,000 yards through the air and 1,879 yards on the ground in 11 games.”

Ruiz is widely accepted as one of the best interior offensive linemen heading into the 2020 NFL Draft. If the Ravens are looking to replace Yanda with a rookie, Ruiz could be their guy as early as the first round.
