When Tom Brady brought his talents to Tampa Bay, rumors about what requests Brady would have ran rampant. Will he want personnel input? Does he want to take the No. 12 from wide receiver Chris Godwin? Is Tom Brady going to want to take control of the offense from coordinator Byron Leftwhich?

The answer to those questions, are a resounding ‘no,’ as Rick Stroud reported. Brady had one request of Buccaneers organization- he wanted the phone numbers of all of his new teammates.

We are in a time where social distancing is the way-of-life, making it a more difficult task to become acquainted with new teammates. The level of leadership that Brady is bringing to Buccaneers is unrivaled, and it’s requests like this that speak volumes of Brady’s character.

At Bucs Wire we are open to exchanging numbers with Brady as well. All you have to do is ask Tom.

Jameis Winston says more of a ‘see you later’ than ‘goodbye’ to Tampa

For the last five seasons, Jameis Winston has been the man-under-center for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. During his time as quarterback, Winston showed signs of brilliance, however, his five-year run was plagued by turnovers. In what became his last season, Winston led the NFL in passing yards with 5,109 and finished second with 33 TD’s. The blemish? The 30 INTs that put Winston in a class of his own as the only player to surpass 30 touchdowns 30 and interceptions in the same season.

It was speculated that Winston was seeking $30 million per year on a new contract, which left a truly divided fan base unsure if the Buccaneers would bring him back. When the news broke that Tom Brady agreed to an offer from the Buccaneers, it started becoming clear that the team would move on from Winston. When it was officially announced that Brady had signed his contract — after an odd-at-best couple of days trying to schedule a physical with the new rules surrounding the coronavirus — it put the final nail in the coffin for Winston as the quarterback in Tampa.

This morning, Winston took to Twitter to thank the Buccaneers and the city of Tampa. However, instead of a ‘thank you’ and ‘goodbye’ the quarterback offered more of a see you later. “It’s been a great 5 seasons as a Buccaneer. All love and respect, I love Tampa and I look forward to seeing y’all again in February,” Winston’s tweet read.

As of now, Winston has not signed a deal with any teams, and it’s unknown where he will find himself in 2020.

In his five years playing for the Buccaneers, Winston threw for 19,737 yards, 121 TDs and 88 INTs. Whether you are a fan of Winston or not, there is no denying that he can move the ball down the field, as the Buccaneers averaged 28.6 points per game in 2019 with Winston as their front-man.

Bruce Arians wonders if there’s a ‘better option’ at quarterback for the Bucs

Could the Tampa Bay Buccaneers really be finished with quarterback Jameis Winston?

The story of the 2019 offseason was quarterback Jameis Winston and how he’d perform under first-year head coach and quarterback guru Bruce Arians in a contract year.

Now, as we find ourselves in the midst of the 2020 offseason, the story is once again Winston and his future status with the Bucs. In a year in which he became just the eighth quarterback in league history to throw for over 5,000 yards in season, Winston also became the first quarterback ever to throw for 30 touchdowns and 30 interceptions in a season.

Suffice it to say, the Bucs are not about to back up the armored truck for Winston, at least in the long-run. Many predict the quarterback could find himself back in Tampa Bay in 2020 on another one-year “prove it deal.”

However, as Bruce Arians recently told ESPN’s Jenna Laine at the NFL Coaches Academy, the team doesn’t have clarity on the quarterback position yet because they don’t know which quarterbacks will be on the open market once free agency starts next month.

“No, because you don’t know who’s available. You’re just sitting and waiting to see, is there someone available? And is he a better option? That’s the problem. You get about three days to decide — the legal tampering [period]. Is somebody else gonna get let go? What’s the trade values? It’s really monotonous right now because you don’t really have any answers.”

I love that last line by Arians: “You don’t really have any answers.” That, in and of itself, seems like an answer to the question of whether or not Winston should feel confident about returning to the Bucs. If the team was committed to the QB, even for just one more year, you wouldn’t be hearing comments like this. After all, Arians has publicly said that Shaq Barrett “ain’t going nowhere” and that extending wide receiver Chris Godwin was a high priority for the team this offseason, too.

The fact that Arians has shown such little public support for Winston should be cause for concern for the former Heisman Trophy winner.

Did Bruce Arians just throw shade at Jameis Winston?

Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians had some interesting things to say when talking about the team’s quarterback situation on Monday.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ season ended with a Jameis Winston pick-six in overtime against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. It was Winston’s 30th interception of the season, making him the first quarterback ever to throw for 30 touchdowns and 30 interceptions in the same year.

It was a tumultuous year for the former No. 1 overall pick, who also threw for over 5,000 yards. Given that Winston was playing on the fifth and final year of his rookie contract, the team is under no obligation to bring him back next season. And, while reports have indicated that the team plans to bring Winston back in some capacity, nothing is certain as of right now.

And, when asked Monday if he thinks the team can win with a quarterback other than Winston under center, head coach Bruce Arians provided an answer that some may view as a shot at Winston.

“Another quarterback? Oh, yeah. If we can win with this one, we can definitely win with another one too. We’re gonna have a defense.”

First, referring to Winston as “this one” instead of by name is a bit of a slight in and of itself, but to say “we can definitely win” with another quarterback makes it sound like Winston is nothing special.

Maybe that’s not how Arians meant it, but it has to be frustrating for a head coach to see his team suffer losses because of the quarterback’s erratic play.

Arians also admitted that the injury to backup quarterback Blaine Gabbert provided Winston with more leeway than he otherwise would’ve gotten had a healthy and experienced backup been available.

“A big part of it was [backup] Blaine [Gabbert] getting hurt and we had to find out [if] this was the franchise [quarterback]. We had to find out.”

Arians said he and management will look over film from all 16 games in the coming weeks before deciding what direction to head in. Should Winston be back next year, you can bet the team won’t be as patient with him when it comes to his turnovers.
