Brian Kelly Addresses Issues in Media Roundtable

Fresh off Monday night’s SportsCenter appearance with Scott Van Pelt, Brian Kelly continued to speak make the rounds Tuesday. It started when he was interviewed by Mike Tirico. After that, he was the center of a virtual roundtable that hosted multiple media members. Irish Illustrated broke down some of the main points he made.

Unsurprisingly, the meat of the conversation revolved around how Notre Dame’s past, present and future has been affected by COVID-19. Testing players, not having recruits visit this spring and what this all means for training camp all were addressed. As for players and parents who are concerned about coming back to campus, Kelly said no program activities are mandatory, but openness and honesty are required.

Kelly also talked a little about how the recent racial issues that have been raised have allowed for dialogue among everyone in the program. Additionally, players having trouble with things like racial and mental issues have access to mental health specialists, and they’ve taken advantage of that during the pandemic. This is a time when everyone needs all the support they can get, perhaps now more than ever.

Kelly has a duty to keep his team sharp. When many experts are predicting the 2020 Irish will make some noise in the national championship race, no stone can be left unturned. He has no problem letting the media know that, so cool your jets if you’ve felt uneasy about how he might be handling all of this.

247Sports Bowl Predictions – Notre Dame to meet recent foe again?

247Sports released their pre-season bowl projections for college football. If you could, would you sign up for where they project ND to go?

247Sports released their pre-season bowl projections this week and have Notre Dame completing a good but not great season as they project the Fighting Irish to meet Georgia in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl.

Their write-up doesn’t give any detail of how Notre Dame gets there but one can assume it’d be a 10-2 record that does the trick.  One would assume 11-1 with both Wisconsin, Clemson and a trip to USC on the schedule would have them making a great case to be included in the College Football Playoff, while a 9-3 mark or worse wouldn’t have them in the New Years Six.

Would you be satisfied with this as the end result for Notre Dame football in 2020?

I know every coach and player will state that the mission and goal is to win a national championship and fans certainly want the same.  However, when you look at the defensive line, secondary, wide receivers and running backs you see there are at best questions and at worst issues at several positions on the current roster.

If I made the offer today that you can sign up to have Notre Dame go 10-2 and play in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl do you take that offer or do you think something better is coming?

As I said when I predicted each game of the season a couple weeks back, I think 10-2 is the most likely scenario as we sit here today.  So in my case, no, I wouldn’t sign because I don’t expect worse than that and I’d take my chances on Notre Dame getting a win over either Wisconsin or Clemson before I’d expect a third regular season loss.
