LSU women’s basketball cruises to their eight straight win

LSU women’s basketball match last season’s win total just 10 games into the season.

The LSU women’s basketball team won their eighth straight game by beating Bradley 77-51. The Tigers used hot shooting and defense to jump out to a 13-0 lead in the first quarter.

Also, in the first half, LSU went on a 30-0 run and took a 47-12 lead at halftime. However, Bradley kept playing hard and did manage to outscore LSU in the second half 35-30. Coach Kim Mulkey said it should have been a 40-point win, but the second unit turned the ball over and took bad shots.

Alexis Morris led the Tigers in scoring 17 points and added five assists. Faustine Aifuwa had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. It was Aifuwa 19th double-double of the season. Jalin Cherry pitched in with 12 points and four steals, and Ryan Payne added 10 points.

The Tigers shot 44.% from the field while holding Bradley to 32.8% shooting. LSU forced Bradley into 27 turnovers, which led to easy baskets.

“That’s a milestone,” said Head Coach Kim Mulkey. “I also will tell them next game that they have an opportunity to win more games than they did last year.”

“(Our guards) can push the ball up the floor as good as anybody. They can defend on-ball as good as anybody. You just tell them, get the rebound and let’s go.”

LSU will play Clemson on Monday in the West Palm Beach Classic. Following that game, Mulkey will see a familiar foe in the Texas Tech Lady Raiders. The LSU women’s head coach is 41-8 against Tech in her Baylor coaching career.

Ja’Marr Chase listed as a fantasy football breakout candidate

The connection between Burrow and Chase is something truly special, and LSU fans know it all too well.

Former LSU star wide receiver [autotag]Ja’Marr Chase[/autotag] was reunited with his former college quarterback [autotag]Joe Burrow[/autotag] when the [autotag]Cincinnati Bengals[/autotag] selected Chase with the fifth overall draft pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

The connection between Burrow and Chase is something truly special, and LSU fans know it all too well.

What should Bengals fans expect from the duo in 2021? Many believe Chase could have an impressive rookie season with Burrow behind center.

Eric Frosbutter of Pro Football Network recently wrote an article breaking down 2021 NFL fantasy football wide receiver breakout candidates, and Ja’Marr Chase made the list:

Despite opting out of the 2020 season, it was no surprise to see Ja’Marr Chase as the first wide receiver off the board in the 2021 NFL Draft. What did surprise some (myself included), is him landing in Cincinnati when the Bengals had other glaring needs. But while some may be disappointed with the Bengals’ selection of Chase from strictly a football standard, fantasy managers should be ecstatic.

Chase is now reunited with his former college QB, Joe Burrow. So, we can already skip the whole chemistry aspect between the two. In his final season at LSU, Chase totaled 84 receptions, 1,780 receiving yards, and 20 touchdowns. Chase and Burrow were in sync throughout the season and ended it the best way possible — with a national championship.

Winning is less likely to occur for the duo in 2021, but this offense will be fun to watch. Tee Higgins projects to be the Bengals’ WR1 to begin the season, but it would not be a surprise to see Chase take that role sooner than later. Chase’s current overall ADP of 53.3 is a reflection of this, as he’s going a full 20 spots ahead of Higgins in fantasy drafts.

While it may seem high to select a rookie wide receiver in the fifth round, this might feel like a bargain come halfway through the season. That’s why Chase is one of the top candidates to be a fantasy football breakout WR in 2021.

All rookies need time to adjust to the NFL game, including wide receivers.

But will the established connection between Burrow and Chase give Chase an advantage in that area? Maybe.

The first few games will be important, but as the season goes on I expect Burrow and Chase to reignite the magic we witnessed throughout the [autotag]2019 LSU Tigers[/autotag] Championship season.

You won’t find many rookie wide receivers with the upside that [autotag]Ja’Marr Chase[/autotag] provides, and I, for one, will be aiming to draft Chase in as many fantasy football leagues as I commit to.

LSU WR Ja’Marr Chase officially opts out, explains decision

Chase has officially opted out of the 2020 college football season.

Last month, Virginia Tech cornerback Caleb Farley became the first high-profile player to announce he was opting out of the 2020 season due to concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.

LSU All-American Ja’Marr Chase, through his father, originally indicated he would be playing this fall.

That all changed on Sunday when it was reported that Chase would indeed opt out of the upcoming season and begin preparations for the 2021 NFL Draft.

Just like that, LSU lost its best offensive player and the top wide receiver in the country.

Chase took to his Twitter account on Monday to let fans know he would have preferred if they heard the news from him first.

Later on Monday evening, Chase released a statement reflecting on his time in Baton Rouge and the importance of wearing the LSU jersey, specifically No. 7.

Chase is expected to be one of the top players selected in the 2021 NFL Draft.
