Syracuse at Notre Dame: Three things to know
- Syracuse lost its seventh game in a row last week, falling 36-29 to NC State. The Orange led 22-14 at the half and 29-27 after three quarters, but the Wolfpack took the lead with 14:14 to go after an 8-play, 59-yard touchdown drive. Syracuse drove to the NC State 9-yard line and faced 1st-and-goal with 52 seconds left, but an 11-yard sack on third down and an incomplete pass from the 18 on fourth down ended the threat. The Orange were held to just 3 rushing yards and 257 total yards. QB Rex Culpepper completed 23 of 45 passes for 254 yards with 2 touchdowns and no picks. WR Taj Harris (13 catches, 146 yards, 1 TD) was his top target.
- Notre Dame remained undefeated with an impressive 31-17 win at then-No. 25 North Carolina last Friday. QB Ian Book completed 23 of 33 passes for 279 yards with 1 TD and no picks. The Irish trailed 7-0 and 14-7 in the first quarter, but they answered each score with a TD of their own. Then the defense took over, allowing just one field goal the rest of the way as the Tar Heels finished with a season-low 298 total yards. The defense also held Tar Heels RB Javonte Williams, who leads the country with 18 total TDs, to 28 rushing yards while keeping him out of the end zone.
- The Irish lead the all-time series 6-3, including wins in each of the last three meetings – most recently 36-3 at home in 2018. Syracuse’s last win in the series was a 24-23 squeaker at Notre Dame in 2008.

Money line (ML)
If a line is posted before kickoff, PASS. It will be way too high of a price on the Irish.
Against the spread (ATS)
NOTRE DAME -33.5 (-110) is worth a small play – half your usual wager. If head coach Brian Kelly decides to go for “style points,” it’s possible the Irish cover the big spread. If he doesn’t, they could still win by seven touchdowns because the Orange won’t be able to move the ball against the Irish defense.
Notre Dame, 5-4 ATS, has covered in its last three games, but it hasn’t won by more than 18 points in any of its last four victories. The Orange, 5-5 ATS, haven’t covered in their last three games vs. the Irish. Syracuse’s biggest loss this season was by 30 points two games ago (30-0 at Louisville).
Over/Under (O/U)
The UNDER 51.5 (-110) is the STRONGEST PLAY – 1.5 times your usual wager. Defensively, the Irish yield just 16.7 points per game, ranking 10th in the country. They allow 303.4 yards per game to also rank 10th, and they are holding opponents to 85.3 rushing YPG to rank fourth.
Look for the Irish to record their second shutout of the season – they beat South Florida 52-0 in their second game of the season.
