Swinney on Vizzina’s awesome camp, ‘way ahead’ of where he was hoping

More praise for Vizzina from Swinney.

With all of the discussions revolving around Clemson’s quarterback situation, rightfully, a lot of the attention goes toward starting quarterback Cade Klubnik.

Klubnik will be the Tigers’ make-or-break player in 2024, but there are still many questions surrounding the player behind him, Christopher Vizzina. A former four-star recruit in the 2023 class who redshirted his freshman year, Vizzina struggled mightily in Clemson’s spring game. On the other hand, former walk-on redshirt sophomore Trent Pearman had a stellar game, making people wonder who would be the backup heading into the season.

There are no questions about that, with Vizzina securing the backup position. Head coach Dabo Swinney is pleased with what he’s seen from the young quarterback.

“He’s way ahead of where I hoped he’d be,” Swinney said Thursday “Really proud of him. He’s had about… he and Cade, have had about four or five really good days in a row.”

“His ball placement, and the game has really slowed down for him,” Swinney said. “He is a really, really big kid and can run. And he’s very accurate. It has been a good camp for him. He is coming out of it with a ton of confidence. And it is good for the team to have confidence in him as well. He’s made some bigtime, including a 2-minute touchdown (Thursday).”

While it’s safe to trust Swinney, we still haven’t seen it from Vizzina.
