Suni Lee earns SEC Freshman of the Week

Suni Lee has won her fourth award in the past five weeks.

Suni Lee has won another SEC weekly award. This time she was named the SEC Freshman of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

This is her fourth weekly award in the past five weeks. She was named the Freshman of the Week twice and Gymnast of the Week twice.

Lee led Auburn to program record 197.925 in their win against Kentucky last Friday. Auburn’s superstar freshman won her fifth-consecutive all-around title with a 39.775.

She also made NCAA and Auburn history. She became the first NCAA gymnast to perform the Nabieva during her bars routine and scored a 9.975, but that was not even the highlight of her night.

That was oin beam, where she scored a perfect 10 on beam. The 10 was the second of her career and first at home.

With her second 10 of the season, she became the first Auburn gymnast since Becky Erwin in 1993 to score more than one 10 in a season. Those two are the only Auburn gymnast to have more than one 10 in their careers. Lee is the only one to score a 10 in two different events.
