As part of the New Year’s Eve college bowl schedule, the Sun Bowl features the Louisville Cardinals (8-4) and the Washington Huskies (6-6). Kickoff from El Paso, Texas, is at 2 p.m. ET (CBS). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college football odds around the Louisville vs. Washington odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Louisville won the last 2 games of the regular season and 4 of its last 5 outing, finishing 5-3 in ACC play. They last played on Nov. 30, beating the Kentucky Wildcats on the road 41-14 as 5-point favorites. QB Tyler Shough had 23 TD passes and RB Isaac Brown led the nation averaging 7.3 yards per rush for 1,074 yards for the season, setting a school freshman record for rushing yards.

Washington, in its first season in the Big Ten, went 4-5 in conference play, splitting its final 4 games. The Huskies were blown out by the No. 1 Oregon Ducks 49-21 on the road, failing to cover the 17-point spread as underdogs. They only had 18 TD passes as a team and averaged only 22.5 points per game.

Louisville vs. Washington picks and predictions

Prediction

Louisville 24, Washington 20

Moneyline

Shough and leading receiver Ja’Corey Brooks have opted out for Louisville, so Harrison Bailey will get the start at QB.

For Washington, Demond Williams is expected to start at quarterback for Washington, as he replaced Will Rogers in the Oregon game.

Washington allowed over 30 points in 4 of its final 6 games while Louisville averaged 37.0 ppg over the final 6 games. But with two different starters at quarterback and without Brooks, this shouldn’t be a shootout.

That said, Louisville’s offense played better than Washington’s defense down the stretch. And Washington didn’t win a game away from home.

BET LOUISVILLE (-120).

Against the spread

With only a 1.5-point spread, and not much difference in value, to avoid in unpredictable bowl games a 1-point win by Louisville, stick with the moneyline.

PASS.

Over/Under

With 2 different starting QBs, a Washington defense that allowed 22.8 points per game in the regular season and a Louisville defense that allowed 23.2, this shouldn’t be that high-scoring.

BET UNDER 49.5 (-110).
