The Buccaneers have placed guard Sua Opeta on injured reserve with a torn ACL, per Buccaneers.com’s Scott Smith. Opeta left the practice field on Tuesday following the injury, though it was unclear the severity of the injury.
With Opeta out, Ben Bredeson all but secures the starting left guard position. Opeta’s injury does leave a sizable dent in Tampa Bay’s offensive line depth chart, though it opens an opportunity for backups Elijah Klein and Luke Haggard to make the final roster.
Moving Opeta to IR opened a roster spot that the Bucs filled with outside linebacker Jay Person. The former Chattanooga edge rusher was a two-time Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Year, recording 27 sacks and 56 tackles for a loss in 49 career games.
