Stewart-Haas Racing’s fourth NASCAR charter receives a big update for 2025

Stewart-Haas Racing’s fourth NASCAR charter receives a big update for 2025. What could happen to Stewart-Haas Racing’s last charter?

[autotag]Stewart-Haas Racing[/autotag]’s charters for the 2025 NASCAR season all have expected homes except for one. 23XI Racing, Trackhouse Racing, and Front Row Motorsports are all expected to purchase one of Stewart-Haas Racing’s charters, with the latter already announcing its intentions to be a three-car team for the 2025 season. However, what about the last one?

RACER.com’s Kelly Crandall joined the Performance Racing Network and discussed the status of Stewart-Haas Racing’s fourth charter. Crandall is unsure where it will end up but did give an interesting example of it staying in-house.

“The fourth [charter] seems to be the one that is confusing or just unknown right now,” Crandall said, “It seems like it changes depending on who you ask. It might be on the market. Maybe it stays somehow within the company. Maybe a Custer, like a Joe Custer or somebody. I don’t know. I’ve heard so many different combinations of what might happen to that fourth charter.”

Could Joe Custer, the vice president of Stewart-Haas Racing and father of Cole Custer, keep the charter for 2025? It would allow his son to jump back into the Cup Series after winning the 2023 NASCAR Xfinity Series championship. The status of Stewart-Haas Racing’s charter is unknown, but it may not go far if Custer wants to keep it.
