Stewart Mandel is back at it again. The writer and editor for The Athletic predicts a long season for Oklahoma and Texas.
Texas and Oklahoma certainly have question marks on both sides of the football. The Longhorns will break in a redshirt freshman quarterback and very young offensive line. The Sooners break in a new coaching staff with an exodus of talent to the transfer portal and NFL draft.
Despite their questions, Oklahoma and Texas have a talent advantage over the rest of the conference. The Sooners brought in Dillon Gabriel, one of the more accurate passers in the country.
The likely conference championship figures to include Baylor, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, or Texas. Nevertheless, Mandel has the Longhorns going 4-8 and 2-7 in conference play.
My predicted Big 12 standings might be the most contrarian thing I’ve ever written.
But I really do believe OU and Texas are going to struggle, and I’m full board on the K State bandwagon. https://t.co/vCdJ4h0l7e

The last time Texas finished a season with four wins was in 1997, John Mackovic’s final season as the Longhorns’ head coach. Texas has not lost eight games in a single season since 1956.
You can’t fault the guy for predicting disappointment for Texas, as the Longhorns have underachieved more often than not the last 12 years. However, predicting Texas will fail to reach five wins is definitely bold.
