Before the Golden State Warriors began their 2022-23 season, their roster was shrouded in controversy. The altercation between Draymond Green and Jordan Poole had become a major topic for sports fans worldwide.
Golden State never broke through that cloud and found it difficult to rediscover the unity that had made them such a tough roster to contend with over the past decade.
Following the Warriors’ Nov. 1 win over the Sacramento Kings, Green and Klay Thompson shared their opinions on the chemistry issues that blighted the roster last season. Yet, head coach Steve Kerr doesn’t think it’s fair to lump the blame onto Jordan Poole. The veteran coach shared his opinion during a recent appearance on 95.7 The Game’s “Willard & Dibs” show.
“I think it’s unfair for people to just point at Jordan,” Kerr said. “That’s wrong. Last year went haywire for a lot of different reasons. Jordan was fantastic while he was here. He helped us win a championship. I hate that he gets any criticism. Last year went wrong for a number of reasons, and we all share the blame for that. … I think last year, we were just overloaded with youth and trying to develop too many people at the same time. It was unfair to all of the young guys that we had so many of them at one time.”
To begin the 2023-24 season, the Warriors have rediscovered the chemistry that has allowed them to be such a dominant force in the NBA. If they can continue to work as a unit and play for the good of the team, their chances of success will improve tremendously.
