Stephen Curry: ‘Defending the title is tough, but we’re excited about the opportunity’

At Friday’s practices, Curry warmed up, ran drills with his campers and even refereed scrimmages between the boys and girls sides. Isn’t he even little tired? “Not at all,” Curry said. “Running on championship adrenaline.” Of course, Curry brought along a little help to the intimate event. Former teammate and current free agent Kent Bazemore and his personal trainer Brandon Payne are coaching alongside him along with a team of people from Curry’s camp. “I Love to give that back knowing I have the opportunity to do so,” Curry said. “And I love to be out there engaged with the kids. On Thursday, Curry went through stretching exercises and drills with the campers before they split onto two courts. He also played some full court with them (why the kids didn’t always pass the ball to him is a mystery). The three-day camp includes dinner at International Smoke, the restaurant Ayesha Curry founded with Michael Mina; a tour of Chase Center, and a night at Lucky Strike bowling alley. On the final night, campers will take a ferry to Tiburon and go to another Mina restaurant, Bungalow Kitchen. Will Tiburon resident Klay Thompson be included? “He’s probably not here, but I’ll invite him over,” Curry said. “He’s the mayor of Tiburon. “I want to give (the campers) a little taste of my home, my backyard, and let them experience what the Bay has to offer.” -via San Francisco Chronicle / August 8, 2022

To recall back in 2019, Holmgren became the talk of social media after he crossed Curry and dunked the ball on him. The then-high school big man basically used Steph’s own move on him. Now, he just made it to the NBA, with the Oklahoma City Thunder using their second overall pick on him. Curry couldn’t be any prouder of what several of his camp’s alumni have accomplished, including Holmgren. While he will never forget how Chet embarrassed him, he said it’s “dope” that they are now going to face each other in the big boys’ league. “Chet hit me with my own move, little double behind the back … he finished it differently than I would though, I would have just pulled up from 3, he went to the basket and dunked on another dude.
