Despite taking home the trophy at the American Century Championship golf tournament in Lake Tahoe on Sunday, one of Steph Curry’s previous records was shattered over the weekend.

At the WNBA’s All-Star weekend, New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu caught fire at the 3-point shooting contest with a record-breaking 37-point round on her way to taking the 3-point shooting crown. Ionescu’s red-hot shooting performance broke the WNBA and NBA record for most made triples in a round with 37 of the 40 maximum points in the contest.

For the NBA, Curry shared the record of 31 points with Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton. However, it sounds like Curry has his eye on Ionescu’s new 37-point number.

In an interview with ESPN, Curry was asked if he would rather win a golf tournament or a 3-point shooting contest, and the Golden State Warriors guard gave a shoutout to Ionescu.

Well now I got to go after Sabrina’s record. So, now I got something to shoot for now that she went crazy with the 37 points in their All-Star weekend. We got to settle that one for sure – who is the better 3-point competition shooter.

Following her record-breaking round, Ionescu joking called-out Curry for a shootout on Twitter.

Curry has won the NBA 3-point contest twice, first in 2015 and most recreantly in 2021.

Following his recent comments about Ionescu’s performance, Curry could be circling the NBA’s 2024 All-Star weekend in Indiana as his return to the 3-point shooting contest.
