Last summer, the Golden State Warriors offseason preparation was drastically undermined due to an incident that saw Draymond Green punch Jordan Poole. The events of the incident have been widely discussed over the previous year. However, Steph Curry has finally opened up on Green’s punch’s impact on the Warriors’ ability to work as a cohesive unit.

When speaking on a recent episode of The Ringer’s ‘Real Ones,’ Curry revealed that the Warriors held multiple meetings regarding the situation, both at a player and front-office level. Ultimately, Green’s punch played a part in derailing the Warriors’ chances of defending their 2022 NBA championship.

“I can’t tell you how many conversations we had you training camp when the incident happened to the beginning of the season, when you’re trying to make sure everybody’s on the same page,” Curry said. “…Because we always talked about this between JP and Draymond, being able to try to rectify the situation, have the necessary conversations. From a coach and front office standpoint, I’m sure you could argue about should there have been a suspension or not…So I felt like there’s no regret there. It’s just a matter like it was an unfortunate situation that everybody was put in.”

The Warriors’ front office looked to resolve any lingering issues this summer when they traded away Jordan Poole in a deal to acquire veteran All-Star Chris Paul. Golden State is hoping for a drama-free training camp this summer as they aim to mount another championship run in the new season.
