A proposed NFL rule change might happen soon and it involves jersey numbers. At least one Bills player is already considering flexing that option: Stefon Diggs.
According to Touchdown Wire, the Chiefs proposed a rule recently which would “loosen up” jersey numbers. Longtime NFL writer Peter King also reported on Monday that it’s expected to pass.
Sections of numbers are typically saved for certain positions but they reportedly will be expanded to the following:
- QB/P/K: 1-19
- RB: 20-49
- TE/FB: 40-49, 80-89
- WR: 10-19, 80-89
- OL: 50-79
- DL: 50-79, 90-99
- LB: 40-59, 90-99
- DB: 20-49
Now onto Diggs. He took to his social media account on Twitter on Monday and suggested that a change might come for him. Candidates include No. 1 and 7:
Number 1 or 7 …. trying see what it’ll look like 👀

Notably in college at Maryland, Diggs wore No. 1. He also did in high school. In the NFL, that number was unavailable to him… until now.
But nothing is yet set in stone yet with the rule changes as it needs to be voted on by NFL Owners… and it’s not settled with Diggs, either.
He followed up that first tweet with a fondness for his current number:
14 to me is everything… 🤍

Diggs keeping Bills fans on their toes… for now.
