Steelers RB Anthony McFarland, Jr. shines in NFL debut

The rookie fourth-rounder was not only active but played in his first game versus the Houston Texans on Sunday.

We wondered when we might see rookie speedster Anthony McFarland, Jr. finally make his debut at running back this season. As eager Steelers Nation was to get their first taste, we didn’t have to wait long.

McFarland first appeared on the active roster in Week 2, but it wasn’t until today’s game versus the Texans he took to the field.

The rookie showed off that speed that Pittsburgh and Steelers Nation were giddy about. Averaging seven yards per carry, McFarland capped off his NFL introduction with 42 yards on six carries.

There’s no doubt that James Conner remains, as Tomlin called him, the “lead dog,” but it’s certainly nice to see a change of pace with McFarland in the game.
