Last season, the Pittsburgh Steelers had to spend more than 14 games living life without Ben Roethlisberger at quarterback. Mason Rudolph appeared in 10 of those games, starting eight of them. The good news is he was 5-3 as a starter.

The bad news was, most of those wins came on the back of the defense and was less about the way Rudolph played. He only averaged 176.5 yards per game passing and struggled to put points on the board.

It would be easy to make some jokes here but based on Rudolph’s comments on Saturday, he recognizes he could have been better and is putting in the work to get better.

Rudolph is an easy target for criticism but you have to applaud his effort and his humility. If another catastrophic injury happens this year, Rudolph is the man and he knows you. You all know it too. So it might be better to rally around the guy instead of being negative.
