After Thursday’s practice, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin updated the media on the injury status of several players including running back Anthony McFarland Jr. who, according to Tomlin is in the concussion protocol.

Tomline characterized wide receiver Ryan Switzer, running Kerrith Whyte, defensive lineman Chris Wormley, running back Wendell Smallwood, wide receiver Diontae Johnson, wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster and offensive guard Kevin Dotson as day to day with minor ailments. Tomlin also reported that tight end Eric Ebron missed practice with an illness.

It is getting down that the point in training camp when we must pay close attention to these injuries. Tomlin never hesitates to hold guys back knowing the long haul is just around the corner. The Steelers square off with the New York Giants in just over two weeks and New York is already down two significant defenders.

Last season Pittsburgh dealt with a litany of injuries starting at the very top with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Keeping this team healthy has to be Tomlin’s top priority.
