Steelers GM Omar Khan on the draft: ‘We are not taking a quarterback’

The Steelers are set at quarterback.

For the first time in several years, the Pittsburgh Steelers are heading into the NFL draft comfortable with the depth at quarterback. During the final stretch of Ben Roethlisberger’s career, an adequate backup and eventual successor was always on the minds of fans. But this season the Steelers go in with Kenny Pickett in his second season and Mitch Trubisky behind him.

General manager Omar Khan spoke on Monday and he backed that statement up by making it clear the Steelers are not going to draft a quarterback this year.

The Steelers have seven picks in the 2023 NFL draft including three in the top 50. With some very clear needs, the Steelers should be able to really improve the roster.

But one caveat to this is, don’t be at all surprised if the Steelers do add a rookie quarterback. He will simply come as an undrafted free agent. Pittsburgh might be set at the starter and backup but a rookie as the team’s scout quarterback makes a lot of sense.
