The Pittsburgh Steelers made the big news of the week last week when they hired former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores to be a senior defensive assistant and linebackers coach. Typically, the addition of an assistant coach isn’t big news but when it is a former head coach who is currently suing the NFL,

When Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert addressed the media, he didn’t really want to talk about the outside stuff or him being grossly overqualified for his position and kept things all business when discussing the Flores and the hire.

“It says that we hired a quality defensive coach that can maybe help us win games,” Colbert said. “There’s nothing else to say.”

Colbert did however say the hire of Flores was driven largely by head coach Mike Tomlin and team president Art Rooney II. If Flores can help short up a leaky front seven next season on his way to another head coaching job, this will turn out to be a massive win for the Steelers.
