2021 was a huge learning experience for Pittsburgh Steelers center Kendrick Green. Primarily a guard at the University of Illinois, Green was thrown into action at center as he tried to replace Maurkice Pouncey.
Green’s struggles hurt the offense and even prompted thoughts of a position change. But it looks like Green is taking things seriously this offseason, training with Pouncey.
Pouncey was the Steelers starting center for 11 seasons and in his prime was one of the best in the AFC. If there’s anyone who can turn Green into a high-level center, it will be Pouncey.
The Steelers selected Green in the third round of the 2021 NFL draft. Green started 15 games at center but was benched late in the season and it was never clear if it was related to an injury or poor play, although Tomlin insisted it was injury.
