On Wednesday, the Pittsburgh Steelers announced they activated running back Anthony McFarland Jr. from the IR to the 53-man roster. To fit McFarland on the roster, the Steelers announced a corresponding move placing defensive tackle Carlos Davis on IR.

McFarland has been out for the first six games of the season after tearing his MCL in training camp. Now, with him healthy, Steelers offensive coordinator Matt Canada should be able to further expand the offense and give the run game an explosive presence with lots of experience in his system.

Davis had missed the previous four games with a knee injury. Pittsburgh is also still awaiting the return of defensive end Stephon Tuitt.

On Wednesday Pittsburgh also announced they were releasing running back Jaylen Samuels from the practice squad and replacing him with defensive tackle Chris Slayton. Slayton played his college ball at Syracuse and has spent time with the New York Giants, Buffalo Bills and Atlanta Falcons.
