Four days before Notre Dame begins its season, there’s already a couple of honors. Junior defenseman Spencer Stastney and senior defenseman Matt Hellickson have been named to the Preseason All-Big Ten Team, which was selected by the conference’s coaches. Stastney is on the Second Team, and Hellickson is an honorable mention.
During the 2019-20 season, Stastney had three goals and 17 assists for 20 points, achieving career highs in all three of those categories. He has been on the All-Big Team Academic Team in each of his first two seasons. Hellickson also has earned that distinction. The alternate captain has yet to miss a game during his collegiate career, which has seen him earn 44 points, 32 of which have come on assists.
The Irish, who have tied for third with Ohio State in the Big Ten Preseason Poll, will play their first two games of the 2020-21 season at home Friday and Saturday against Wisconsin.
