The Kansas City Chiefs are expected to rest their starters in Week 18 after clinching the No. 1 seed for the AFC playoffs with a win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas Day.
The much-needed rest period could prove crucial to Kansas City’s viability as playoff contenders as the Chiefs endeavor to get healthy ahead of their eventual Divisional Round postseason matchup.
Star defensive back Trent McDuffie is among the players who will stand to benefit the most from Kansas City’s off-time as he nurses a knee injury that limited his participation in practice on January 1 and 2.
The extent of McDuffie’s injury is unclear, but it is unlikely that he would have been in the Chiefs’ starting lineup in Week 18 regardless of his injury status.

Expect the former Washington Husky to work his way back to full participation in the coming weeks as Kansas City prepares for another grueling playoff run through the end of the month.
