Stanford A Decade Long House of Horrors for Notre Dame

There haven’t been many more painful losses in Brian Kelly’s now ten-year run than what happened to conclude the 2015 regular season.

Forget that.

There haven’t been many more painful losses for Notre Dame in the almost 30 years I’ve been watching as the regular season finale in 2015 was.

2011:  No. 6 Stanford 28, No. 22 Notre Dame 14

Future No. 1 overall draft pick Andrew Luck played his final game at Stanford Stadium in this one and won his third and final game against Notre Dame.

Luck would throw for three first-half touchdown passes while Stanford jumped out to a 21-0 lead.

The defense would tighten up for Notre Dame after halftime, but the issue never really was in doubt since the closest the Irish would ever get within was 14.

Andrew Hendrix replaced Tommy Rees after a late first-half interception by Rees and was able to throw one touchdown to Michael Floyd before rushing for one himself.

The loss dropped the Irish to 8-4 on the year and sent them to the Champs Sports Bowl where they would lose to Florida State.

Luck and Stanford would end up falling to Oklahoma State in an all-time classic Fiesta Bowl that saw a combined 79 total points and overtime.
