Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama on the pressure of being a star rookie in big games

Pressure makes diamonds, after all.

It would be all too easy to play one of the best teams in the NBA like the Boston Celtics with all the additional pressure simply being Victor Wembanyama brings and let it get to one’s head. But Wemby recently let it be known that the intense pressure of being the next big thing in the league go to his head, sharing how focusing on his game and his team are his main concerns in just his rookie season.

“It just felt funny how I really don’t care and how I really don’t pay attention to it,” said the French wunderkind big man via “Hoop Dreams” in a recent clip put together by that YouTube channel.

“It doesn’t change my routine, doesn’t change my attitude. I think I could say I’m built for this,” he added.

This is exactly the sort of thing you want to hear from a young star whose expectations are only outsized by his height. Check out the clip embedded above to hear why Wembanyama is surprisingly mature for a rookie.
