Spurs listed among ‘best fits’ for potential Davion Mitchell trade

The San Antonio Spurs were listed among the potential “best fits” for Sacramento Kings guard Davion Mitchell in a trade.

As the San Antonio Spurs prepare to tackle the impending trade deadline, big-time moves shouldn’t be expected. The Spurs currently sit at the bottom of the Western Conference with no realistic chance of making a playoff run. However, any trade they decide to make this season could help them prepare for their future with Victor Wembanyama.

Outside of the rookie Frenchman, one of the biggest talking points of the Spurs’ season has been the point guard positon. Tre Jones has assumed the starting role, but adding talent in that spot could help the Spurs out both right now and moving forward.

According to Sam Vecenie of The Athletic, who recently concocted a trade board of the players most likely to be moved at the deadline, San Antonio is one of the “best fits” for Sacramento Kings point guard Davion Mitchell.

“It says a lot about Mitchell’s offensive struggles that the Kings have found it hard to get his defensive energy and aggression on the floor,” Vecenie wrote. “He’s still an absolute menace on defense, flying around with reckless abandon and causing issues at the point of attack for opposing perimeter players. However, he’s been one of the worst offensive players in the league so far this year, posting awful shooting percentages from the field and from 3.”

The other top potential fits Vecenie noted are the Toronto Raptors, Memphis Grizzlies, and Detroit Pistons. He seems to be in need of a second-chance home at this point.

Adding Mitchell’s defensive-minded game to the Spurs rotation could give them a much-needed boost on that side of the ball.
