Spurs’ Blake Wesley cleared to play after 6-week absence

The 25th pick suffered a Grade 3 left MCL sprain on Oct. 30 versus the Timberwolves.

San Antonio Spurs rookie Blake Wesley has been cleared to return to play after missing the past six weeks due to a knee injury, the team announced on Friday.

Welsey suffered the injury on Oct. 30 versus the Minnesota Timberwolves after banging knees with forward Jaden McDaniels. He was diagnosed with a Grade 3 left MCL sprain and was initially expected to miss 6-8 weeks.

The 25th pick was assigned to the Austin Spurs in the NBA G League and is expected to play on Friday versus the Capitanes in Mexico City. It would mark his first game on assignment with Austin.

The injury came in just his second appearance with the Spurs. He recorded 10 points and four assists in his debut on Oct. 28 in a win over the Chicago Bulls and produced six points and two rebounds prior to suffering the injury versus the Timberwolves.
