The New York Giants have questions in their secondary. no top-end pass rusher and lack a tall, big-play wide receiver, but none of those are considered their biggest weakness entering the 2020 season. At least not according to Sports Illustrated.
When breaking down all 32 teams and their biggest weakness heading into the regular season, SI pegged Daniel Jones and his fellow quarterbacks as Big Blue’s greatest concern.
I think a more imaginative approach to the offense, and a healthy Saquon Barkley, will alleviate a lot of Daniel Jones’s struggles in 2019, as terrible and dated as that sounds. The Giants also theoretically improved their offensive line drastically with the selection of Andrew Thomas at No. 4 in the draft. Still, we’re going off what we know at the moment, and last year the Giants were incredibly ineffective throwing the ball especially against zone defenses. The Giants were also among the worst teams in the NFL against the blitz and when facing pressure.
As SI alludes, the Giants did struggle in 2019 when facing extensive pressure, but that was a factor of the offensive line and not necessarily Jones himself.
After making several key upgrades at the position, the Giants should be better upfront this coming season. That can only mean good things for Jones, who is looking to improve upon a productive rookie campaign that saw him throw for more than 3,000 yards with 24 touchdowns.
The Giants definitely have some very real concerns, but if we’re being honest with ourselves, Jones is certainly not one of them.
