South Carolina tabs redshirt freshman as starting quarterback post-spring

A redshirt freshman has reportedly been named South Carolina’s starting quarterback coming out of spring practice.

According to reports, South Carolina Gamecocks head coach Shane Beamer has named LaNorris Sellers as the team’s starting quarterback coming out of spring practice.

Sellers, a redshirt freshman, is a former in-state prospect from the 2023 class, rated as a four-star out of South Florence High School in South Carolina. The four-star also ranked as the No. 4 overall player in the state according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

A backup to Spencer Rattler last season, Sellers made only three appearances for the Gamecocks as a true freshman, completing all four of his passes for 86 yards and two touchdowns. Sellers also carried the ball five times, rushing for 51 yards and a touchdown.

Looking ahead, Sellers will now enter fall camp as South Carolina’s starting quarterback, and will be joined by the likes of transfers Robby Ashford and Davis Beville, as well as incoming freshman Dante Reno.

Could a breakout 2024 season now be in the works for Sellers in Columbia?
