One more Rutgers football standout is heading to the NFL.
Former Rutgers football defensive back Tre Avery will be signing with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted rookie free agent, a source tells RutgersWire. Avery was originally headed to the New York Jets this week for rookie minicamp as an invited player.
Now, it appears that Avery will be joining the Tennessee Titans.
Avery put together a solid senior season at Rutgers with 34 total tackles and four passes defended and an interception.
He had a strong showing in the recent Rutgers pro day, showing good athleticism and speed in drills and workouts.
Avery trained locally to Rutgers at TEST Football Academy, the same facility where Pittsburgh quarterback Kenny Pickett trained for the NFL combine and his pro day workout.

Two of Avery’s teammates, wide receiver Bo Melton (Seattle Seahawks) and running back Isiah Pacheco (Kansas City Chiefs), were drafted on Day 3 of the NFL Draft. Both players were seventh-round selections.
