Source: Sage Clawges has officially arrived at Rutgers

Sage Clawges is back on campus, this time to officially join the Rutgers football program.

Country roads certainly took Sage Clawges home…home to Rutgers football that is.

On Thursday, a source close to the program tells Rutgers Wire that Clawges has arrived with the Scarlet Knights and will begin conditioning workouts with the team. Clawges, originally from West Virginia, committed to Rutgers in late June as part of the 2024 recruiting class.

Since then, Clawges finished his coursework and graduated from high school early. He held offers from Iowa, Penn State, Syracuse and West Virginia

An athlete who had originally planned this fall to attend a prep school in Connecticut, Clawges is a talented and long defensive back prospect. He was a three-star recruit by Rivals and according to ESPN was the No. 11 prospect in Connecticut in the 2024 recruiting class.

A long strider, the 6-foot-4, 185-pound Clawges has the length, speed and athleticism that Rutgers likes in their defensive backs.

Two days after his commitment, Scarlet Nation (part of the 247Sports network) obtained the scoop that Clawges will be enrolling early.

This is now the second early arrival to arrive in the summer or the fall for Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano since his return to the program. In 2021, quarterback [autotag]Gavin Wimsatt[/autotag] enrolled at Rutgers in September following an early graduation from high school.

Wimsatt played his first couple of games at Owensboro High School (Owensboro, KY) before graduating and enrolling early at Rutgers in early September.

He played in four games as a true freshman.
