As a two touchdown underdog, the Oklahoma Sooners had a dream start to the Red River Rivalry. Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers threw an interception on the first drive and the UT offense stalled on the next two.
Even with the wind, however, the Sooners couldn’t capitalize. They scored a mere three points in the first quarter.
Once the game moved to the second quarter, it was all Texas. The Longhorns marched 75 yards for a TD to take the lead. They forced two fumbles and scored on both subsequent possessions in the quarter to take a commanding 21-3 lead into the locker room.
After the first quarter, the No. 1 Longhorns dominated in all three phases. But Sooners defensive back Billy Bowman doesn’t see it that way. He told the press after the game that Texas didn’t earn it: The Sooners gave it to them.
“Just opportunities. We just gave it to them. As a defense we’re better than that like coach said. We take full accountability, especially me and Danny (Stutsman). But end of story, we gave it to them. In my mind, they didn’t earn what they got shortly after that interception.” — Oklahoma Sooners DB Billy Bowman.

Bowman also had a lot to say before the game as well, claiming “They not ready” as he got off the bus.
