What looked like a final tune-up game before the start of the season is now one that could be a dogfight for the Oklahoma Sooners. The OU defense is playing well, but they didn’t get much help from an offense that scored just 14 points on Saturday against Houston.
The Sooners need to find more of a rhythm on offense. If the run game could be more efficient, it would go a long way to put the offense ahead of the chains to avoid so many third and long situations.
For the defense, they simply have to keep building on a pair of good performances to start the season. Continue to play the run well and limit explosive plays in the passing game.
The Oklahoma Sooners offense gets on track this week with an improved performance from the offensive line and quarterback Jackson Arnold. Wide receiver Nic Anderson’s return creates more open space for Deion Burks and Brenan Thompson to operate, and the tight ends continue their strong start to the season.
The Sooners defense continues to look good. The Sooners have one of the best run defenses in the country and they slow down Mekhi Hughes forcing the Green Wave into some third and long situations. Zac Alley’s pressure concepts get to talented true freshman quarterback Darian Mensah, which leads to a couple of interceptions in the game.
Sooners 27, Green Wave 13
