Sooners make top 12 for elite 2025 safety

Oklahoma Sooners make the top 12 for 2025 top 100 prospect Jonah Williams.

We aren’t even close to being done with the 2024 recruiting cycle, but it’s never too early to talk about 2025. Especially, when the Sooners are in the running for a potential five-star safety.

Jonah Williams from Galveston, Texas, is a big safety at 6-foot-3, 200 pounds. He’s ranked in the top 90 for every major outlet with two having him in the top 40.

Right now, On3 Sports has Texas with a slight lead, followed by Texas A&M and then Oklahoma. So it will not be an easy hill to climb for Brent Venables and Co.

It’s unclear what the plan would be for him, but with his size, he seems like he would be a prototypical cheetah for the Sooners. Some sights even list him as a linebacker, whereas others see him as a safety.

Last season he was the Texas District 9-5A-I overall MVP as just a sophomore and helped his school go undefeated in the regular season, allowing 31 total points in 11 games, per 247Sports.

Earlier this week, he released his top 12, which consisted of the Sooners, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Colorado, Ohio State, Oregon, Ole Miss, Arizona State, LSU and USC.

Oklahoma 2025 QB commit [autotag]Kevin Sperry[/autotag] is already working to help land Williams’ commitment, tweeting at the recruit.

We’ve talked about it a bunch, but these are the type of players Oklahoma needs as it heads into the SEC in 2024. It’s a big reason the 2023 season is so critical for the Sooners’ efforts to help lure these top recruits to Norman.
