Don’t ever bet on sports, kids. Actually, just don’t bet on anything at all.
If there’s one lesson you can take away from No. 2 seed Ohio State’s shocking upset loss to the 15th-seeded Oral Roberts in the first round of 2021 NCAA Tournament, it’s that. We could probably get a testimonial from the unfortunate sports bettor who take a major L just hours into March Madness.
Shortly before the Buckeyes were bounced out of the tournament, some poor soul put up $100,000 on them to win the national championship. The bet would have won a whopping $2 million, according to the Action Network’s Darren Rovell…
Huge bet into the William Hill book at Silver Sevens in Las Vegas:
$100,000 on Ohio State to cut down the nets.
Would win $2 million.

I can’t imagine what that person was going through during the 45-minute basketball game. Oral Roberts looked like the better team throughout but needed a late flurry just to force overtime. And at the end of the extra five minutes, Buckeyes guard Duane Washington Jr. had a wide-open look at a game-tying (and ticket-saving) 3-pointer.
It clanked off the rim, ending this ambitious sports bettor’s dream … along with the championship hopes of Ohio State.
