SoFi Stadium won’t open in July with Taylor Swift concert canceled

SoFi Stadium was set to open in July, but that will no longer be the case due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Construction on SoFi Stadium was said to be on schedule despite the coronavirus outbreak, but if those working on the project needed more time, they now have it. The stadium’s opening event, a two-night Taylor Swift concert on July 25 and 26, has been canceled as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak.

SoFi Stadium announced the news on Twitter Friday, in conjunction with Swift postponing her 2020 tour until next year.

This is obviously disappointing news for everyone involved, but it’s hardly surprising. Public events around the country have been canceled and postponed due to restrictions on large gatherings, many of which were scheduled for this summer.

There’s still no telling whether the NFL season will begin on time, but as of now, the Rams and Chargers are slated to play preseason games at SoFi Stadium in August. The next event on the schedule at the venue is a Kenny Chesney concert on August 1.
