SoFi Stadium, the new home to the Chargers and Rams, will not have an official grand opening in July.
Pop star Taylor Swift was expected to have a two-night concert on July 25 and 26, which would have marked the first event held in the stadium, but SoFi Stadium announced that it has been postponed to 2021 as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak.
“We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and remain focused on having a safe and healthy environment for all, now and when we open,” the statement explains.
It’s unfortunate, but it’s not all that surprising. Due to the worldwide crisis, public events have been cancelled and restrictions on large gatherings have been made.
It remains to be seen if the NFL season will start on time, but at the moment, preseason games are expected to be played in SoFi Stadium. The next question becomes whether fans will be allowed in to spectate.
