Social media reacts to Trent McDuffie’s Super Bowl performance

The Washington Huskies alumnus starred as the Kansas City Chiefs won their second straight Super Bowl.

The Kansas City Chiefs wouldn’t have won Super Bowl LVIII without the performance of former Washington Huskies star cornerback Trent McDuffie. As the Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers 25-22, the first-team All-Pro defender came up big on multiple occasions to help keep quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City in the game, even when they were down by multiple possessions.

McDuffie had a game-high 3 pass breakups and added 3 tackles, along with a very well-timed blitz late in the fourth quarter that turned into a quarterback hurry for him and saved the game for Kansas City. McDuffie was able to get a hand on Brock Purdy’s pass to stop the clock on third down, forcing San Francisco to kick a field goal instead of giving them a chance to run out the clock if they were able to move the chains.

He was also called for a penalty during the first possession of overtime, extending the 49ers’ only drive of the extra period, but the defense was able to hold San Francisco to a field goal. The former Washington star was an integral piece to the victory on his way to his second Super Bowl ring and he earned himself plenty of fans on social media too.

Washington’s social media team was quick to congratulate the All-Pro cornerback.

McDuffie’s blitz came at the perfect time to keep the game alive for the Chiefs.

One of McDuffie’s 3 PBU’s came in the end zone, as he was asked to work against another All-Pro for the majority of the night, wide receiver Deebo Samuel.

The touchdown-saving breakup looked even better from the All-22 angle.

ESPN personality and Washington fan Mina Kimes was also quick to praise McDuffie.
