Head coach Steve Sarkisian is known as a quarterback guru and that has seemingly opened the door for the nation’s top signal-callers to consider the University of Texas.
Sarkisian’s recruiting efforts gained significant momentum on Saturday afternoon when five-star quarterback Maalik Murphy announced his commitment to Texas. The California native will join four-star running back Jaydon Blue, four-star wide receiver Armani Winfield, and four-star cornerback Jaylon Guilbeau in the 2022 class.
Not only is Murphy the first five-star recruit that Sarkisian has landed throughout his short tenure in Austin, he’s one of the top-4 quarterback prospects to ever come to the Forty Acres.
The 6-foot-4, 225-pound playmaker is a top-30 player in the country and chose Texas over the likes of Alabama, Ohio State, LSU, Michigan, and Florida among others.
One of the most underrated aspects of Murphy announcing his commitment at this time is that several other highly-touted recruits will likely follow in his footsteps.
